PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION:Â
The University Advisor works in a culture of collaboration with a faculty, career and peer advisor in a shared advising model. Reporting to the Director of University Advising, the University Advisor is dedicated to student success, serving as a trusted and consistent resource to students, providing accurate and reliable information to assist them in meeting academic and personal goals. The University Advisor possesses a high attention to detail, demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, embraces advising technology, thinks critically and possesses an understanding of college student development theory.

Essential Job Functions:
- Work collaboratively with comprehensive advising team including faculty, career, and peer advisors to provide holistic advising support to students
- Provide developmental advising for a caseload of students from enrollment to graduationÂ
- Assist students with major exploration, sharing curricular and co-curricular opportunities
- Help students understand how curricular and co-curricular opportunities fit into the bigger picture of their life, career, and academic goals.
- Engage in purposeful discussion with students to learn about course performance and interests
- Provide accurate and current curricular information to undergraduate students, assisting in the development of achievable academic goals and degree plansÂ
- Assist students in clarifying their understanding of academic skills, strengths and challenges, personal values, abilities, and goals
- Communicate important University policies and procedures to studentsÂ
- Coordinate and implement outreach interventions for at risk students focused on student success and retention
- Monitor and advise students to ensure satisfactory progress, including warnings, probations and holds; following up accordingly
- Create a welcoming environment that is inclusive of all students from all backgrounds.
- Utilize technology to identify and support at risk students, using data analyticsÂ
- Maintain complete and accurate documentation of all student interactions, designing completion plans
- Assist students in learning University planning tools in self service
- Understand FERPA policies and regulationsÂ
- Stay abreast of changing institutional information including new programs, course changes and important datesÂ
- Make referrals for students to appropriate campus resources
- Potentially teach a section of BLUE 101 course for new students
- Involvement at Summer Orientation program and assist with registration for incoming new students
- Present at prospective student events
- Perform other duties as assigned
