PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION: 

The Head Men’s Hockey Coach will be responsible for administering all aspects of the hockey program including coaching, budget, team travel, recruiting, scouting, film review, planning, mentoring, and management of a regionally and nationally successful hockey program at Western New England University.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Recruiting and retaining student-athletes
  • Practice and game planning and execution
  • Coordinating technical, tactical, and fitness/conditioning training sessions
  • Promoting holistic mental and physical well-being of student-athletes
  • Scouting opponents
  • Supervising coaching staff
  • Engaging in the planning and coordination of student-athlete development initiatives
  • Assuring program is in compliance with all Departmental, University, and NCAA/CNE rules, regulations, and policies
  • Participating in oversight of equipment distribution and return
  • Developing and implementing fundraising initiatives at program level and assisting with fundraising at the department and University level
  • Engaging in alumni relations activities
  • Attending all Athletics Department, University, Conference, Professional Association, and NCAA meetings and trainings as mandated by the University and the Athletic Director
  • Conducting all program activity in a manner consistent with University and Department mission and vision
  • Participating fully in strategic planning and strategic initiatives development, execution, and assessment
  • Coordinating and participating in program and departmental community service activities
  • Contest management and other secondary duties as assigned to ensure the smooth operation of the Athletic Department

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required, Master’s Degree Preferred
  • 3-5 years of hockey coaching experience required, collegiate head coach experience preferred
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations including Title IX
  • Excellent leadership and supervisory skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated coaching ability – may include appropriate coaching licensure or certification
  • Ability to work effectively individually and as part of a team
  • The ability to articulate the vision, mission and core values of Division III Athletics and Athletics at Western New England University
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Athletic department staff, rink staff, and with members/staff of other groups/divisions on Campus
  • Nights and weekends required.  Full-time presence on-campus required outside of game and practices.

HOURS:

This is an exempt position with full-time hours needed to complete job responsibilities.
