SUMMARY  

In accordance with RNP’s Mission Statement, Philosophy of Client Care and Code of Ethics as stated in the Personnel Policies and under the supervision of the Consulting Psychiatrist and Clinical Director, evaluates, diagnoses and provides medical management for clients with co-occurring disorders by performing the following duties:

CORE FUNCTION

  • Collects and organizes information related to individual client, family, medical, substance abuse and mental health history, and onset/severity of symptoms obtained from client, family members, and other pertinent treatment providers.
  • Determines nature and extent of co-occurring disorders and formulates individualized treatment programs.
  • Provides psychiatric evaluations, medication monitoring and psychiatric consultation.
  • Provides medication education for individual clients, staff and families as necessary.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings, providing consultation for clinical staff.
  • Assists psychiatrist and nurse in transcribing doctor’s orders
  • Completes clinical and medical documentation for individual client records.
  • Assumes all other appropriate duties as deemed necessary by the supervisor.

 

 

CORE COMPETENCIES

Valid State of Connecticut license as a psychiatric APRN or Physician’s Assistant required; ability to prescribe and medically monitor substance abuse and mental health medications.

  • Knowledge of substance abuse and mental health issues, signs/symptoms, the principles of medical management, implementation of effective medically managed treatment, current medications, self-efficacy of medications, side effects of medications, cross interactions. 
  • Ability to provide compassionate care. 
  • Considerable knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations regarding client confidentiality. 
 
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships. 
  • Excellent communication skills.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES

Valid State of Connecticut license as a psychiatric Advanced Practitioner Registered Nurse or psychiatric Physicians Assistant required.  Incumbents may be required to secure additional professional certification and/or license.  Valid Connecticut driver’s license may be required.
