Job Overview
The DOC MAT Nurse (LPN) plays a key role in supporting Recovery Network of Programs’ mission to provide high-quality, compassionate care to individuals undergoing treatment for substance use disorder. This position focuses on Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) responsibilities, including dispensing methadone, suboxone, and other approved medications. The LPN works closely with clients, medical providers, counselors, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, effective, and client-centered care in accordance with state, federal, and agency guidelines.
Job Type: Part Time | Monday- Friday 11am – 3:00 PM
Key Responsibilities
Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) Duties at the DOC
- Dispense and document all methadone, suboxone, and/or vivitrol doses per program policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
- Verify, record, and update physician orders, dosage levels, and lab results in client records.
- Maintain accurate medication counts, including monitoring for potential interactions with other prescribed medications.
- Observe clients and document significant conditions, side effects, or reactions to medications; promptly notify the physician or supervisor of concerns.
- Ensure clients receive required annual physical exams.
- Provide crisis intervention and assist with de-escalation as needed.
- Travel as required to correctional or program sites (e.g., Bridgeport Correctional Center) to dispense medications.
- Maintain medical supply inventory and ensure equipment is in safe working condition.
- Uphold all agency, state, and federal standards for safe medication administration and client confidentiality.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the State of Connecticut.
- Valid Connecticut driver’s license.
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, preferably in addiction treatment, correctional health, or community health.
- Previous experience in methadone maintenance or MAT programs strongly preferred.
- Phlebotomy experience a plus.
- Strong clinical assessment, observation, and documentation skills.
- Ability to provide compassionate, non-judgmental care to individuals with substance use disorders.
- Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Effective communication and counseling skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage time efficiently, and collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.
- Crisis intervention and de-escalation skills.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Fast-paced clinical setting within RNP substance use treatment programs.
- Exposure to correctional environments and standard clinical conditions.
- Ability to kneel, bend, and lift light objects; manual dexterity to operate medical and office equipment.
- Clear verbal and written communication in English; ability to hear normal speaking levels in person and over the phone.
- Close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus required.
- Travel between program sites as needed.
