About the Role:

As a Compliance Specialist, you will play a key role in supporting and enhancing our compliance program. You’ll ensure regulatory requirements are met, monitor internal controls, and collaborate with departments across the credit union—especially lending and mortgage operations—to promote a culture of compliance and integrity.

What You’ll Do:

  • Monitor federal and state regulatory changes, with a focus on TILA, RESPA, HMDA, ECOA, TRID, and other lending laws.
  • Audit loan files and disclosures to ensure accuracy, fairness, and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of file maintenance logs, system access, and transaction limits to verify internal control integrity.
  • Assist in member complaint resolution, including regulatory responses and trend analysis.
  • Review and recommend updates to lending policies, forms, and procedures.
  • Support internal and external audits and regulatory examinations.
  • Help educate staff by developing and delivering compliance training.

*PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS AN ON-SITE, IN-PERSON POSITION. CANDIDATE MUST RESIDE IN STATE OF MAINE.

Qualified Candidates Bring:

  Proven Experience: At least 3 years in a compliance, audit, or risk management role within a financial institution—ideally with a strong focus on mortgage and consumer lending compliance.

  Educational Background: An associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience, such as industry certifications, specialized training programs, or job-specific skills gained through apprenticeships.

  Regulatory Expertise: Solid understanding of federal and state regulatory frameworks and the agencies that oversee them, including NCUA, CFPB, and FFIEC.

  Discretion and Professionalism: Ability to handle sensitive information with a high degree of confidentiality, exercising sound judgment, tact, and diplomacy in communication.

  Detail-Oriented Mindset: Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify compliance issues, evaluate risks, and recommend practical solutions.

  Exceptional Communication Skills: Clear, professional verbal and written communication abilities, including the preparation of well-organized documentation, reports, and internal correspondence.
