SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Reporting to the Tooling Manager, led by department team leads. The Die Tech 1 Position is an entry-level tooling position. Die Tech 1 is the first step before becoming indentured into the formal apprenticeship program to become a Tool and Die Maker. Die Tech 1 will shadow other senior die makers, die setters, and machinists. Gain knowledge and grow as an individual and professional all while learning a trade. Must maintain a safe working environment by ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Includes, but may not be limited to the following:
· Learn and successfully demonstrates the ability to operate all required machines, tools, and equipment in the machine shop.
o Ability to learn and operate all standard tool room equipment such as milling machines, drill presses, surface grinders, lathes, etc. CNC machine set up a plus
· Learn and demonstrates knowledge in the following areas:
o Power Hack Saw and Manual/Power Bandsaw
o Lathe
o Milling Machines (Vertical and Horizontal)
o Grinders (Surface and Internal Grinders)
o Drill Press
· Understands filing, assembling, the layout of holes, and lapping of die fixtures.
· Makes simple dies and fixtures.
· Demonstrates knowledge and application of bench, layout, and assemblies indicating the use of gauge blocks, deburring, assembly, and fitting.
· Demonstrates knowledge of welding (clamping, weld preparation, rod selection, stick, and arc welding).
· Demonstrates knowledge of heat-treating steel and how to cure hardened steel.
· Demonstrates knowledge of tool and cutter grinding.
· Understands and demonstrates basic machine repair.
· Assists Tool and Die-makers with die construction.
· Assists Tool and Die-makers with the maintenance of notch and air press tooling.
· Maintains current knowledge and application of tool calibration.
· Maintains shop and work area using 6S methodology (sort, set in order, shine, standardize, sustain, and safety).
· Perform other job functions as required
Skills and Competencies
· Demonstrate and understands basic shop math
· Ability to use learn how to use precise measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, gauge blocks, dial indicators, etc.
· Takes direction well
· Mechanically ability as witnessed by Mechanical Attitude Work Keys Assessment
· Blue Reading as witnessed by Graphic Literacy Work Keys Assessment
· Able to work independently within the team
· Ability to work with appropriate inter-company customers
· Ability to communicate well with others (read and write legibly)
· Maintain a positive attitude while learning difficult high-precision tasks
· Follow all safety rules and report unsafe work conditions to management
· Regularly attend work during scheduled work hours
· Ability to work nights, come in early and stay late as needed
Safety, Health, Environmental (SH&E)
· Must observe all safety regulations to ensure employees' own safety as well as the safety of others. Support a safe and healthy work environment that is free of recognized hazards for all employees, contractors, and visitors.
· Cooperate with all local, state, and federal agencies, such as OSHA or the EPA, in the event of an inspection.
· Know and follow all applicable SH&E Policies and Procedures.
