Description

Serves as a Hospital Services (HS) education expert and maintains skills to participate in and support HS activities. Provides coordination of ongoing training, growth, and development of HS staff. Responsible for the onboarding and training of new and existing HS staff members. Additionally, collaborates with HS, Family Services, Donation Services, Organ Procurement, Quality and Education leadership to assess and implement ongoing departmental educational needs. Responsible for developing, supporting, and implementing specific internal and external education initiatives as directed by HS leadership.  Serves as a role model for MTN B-REAL behavioral competencies.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

HOSPITAL SERVICES

  1. Demonstrated proficiency in core functions of a Hospital Services Coordinator.
  2. Demonstrated ability to successfully work independently with complex hospital structures to achieve plans/goals.
  3. Demonstrated ability to identify, generate and share best practices with staff in programs that can be shared system-wide and/or industry-wide.
  4. Trained as an MTN Buddy and/or Peer Interviewer.
  5. Maintains strong working knowledge in the field through NATCO, AOPO, and The Alliance.
  6. Maintains professional relationships and rapport with MTN leadership, staff and external stakeholders.
  7. Provides information to MTN leadership related to HS issues to maintain a high level of service and support.

EDUCATION

Supports the HS department toward the accomplishment of MTN’s mission and goals.

  1. Assists HS leadership with regularly assessing the educational needs of HS staff. 
  2. Provides educational planning consultation to HS team to ensure accuracy, integrity and consistency of content.
  3. Collaborates with HS Leadership to provide ongoing staff training to reinforce competencies and ensure compliance with policies and procedures
  4. Develops and maintains standardized educational content provided to external stakeholders.
  5. Collaborates with HS leadership to develop and support MTN sponsored symposia throughout the service area.
  6. Serves as a resource to HSCs for hospital-driven educational symposia to align and standardize content.
  7. Leads content development for quarterly Donation Connections newsletter.
  8. Participates in educational program development planning for Donation and Transplantation Action Council (DTAC).
  9. Participates in educational program development planning for Physician Donation Action Council (PDAC).
  10. Maintains Learning Management System (LMS) for on-demand education offerings to external stakeholders.
  11. Develops standardized learning modules for on-demand education.
  12. Serves as primary contact for nursing and medical school education by developing and maintaining relationships with service area program contacts.
  13. Collaborates with HS Leadership to coordinate nursing and medical school education.
  14. Develops standardized content for nursing, physician, and ancillary school education.
  15. Collaborates with credentialing bodies to obtain continuing education credits (CEU’s) per program planning.
  16. Partners with Corporate Education department to develop annual competencies for HS staff, establish learning objectives, and coordinate planning of the annual Skills Day events.
  17. Collaborates with HS leadership to review and update HS forms and educational tools.
  18. Identifies and coordinates appropriate educational opportunities such as webinars, local training, etc.
  19. Participates in coverage of hospital education and/or meetings in times of high need as determined by department director.

ONBOARDING AND PRECEPTING

Collaborates with HS leadership and Manager of Education to ensure successful onboarding of new HS staff:

  1. Develops and maintains current curriculum for onboarding of new HS staff.
  2. Coordinates, directs and documents onboarding activities.
  3. Ensures all onboarding competencies are met, providing constructive feedback and remedial training as needed.
  4. Collaborates with the Corporate Education team to maintain onboarding tracking and documentation records for new hires and ongoing skills development. 
  5. Engages in job shadowing with HS staff and preceptors to ensure the continuity of policies and best practices. 
  6. Identifies and works with Corporate Education Coordinator to schedule appropriate educational opportunities such as webinars, local trainings, etc.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  1. Undergraduate degree in biological or social sciences, business, marketing or communications; or associates degree with RN or other allied health licensure required.
  2. Master’s degree or an equivalent combination of nursing education and experience in the OPO and healthcare education preferred
  3. 2 years’ experience as a Level II HSC or a combination of experience and education providing equivalent knowledge required.
  4. Thorough understanding of hospital operations, ICU and nursing environments, and physician relationship management
  5. Strong knowledge of clinical education principles and healthcare marketing strategies
  6. Knowledge of organ and tissue recovery.
  7. Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week. Required to work for extended periods of time including after MTN business hours, with few breaks.
  8. Microsoft Office proficiency required.
  9. Detail oriented, organized, excellent tracking/reporting skills, effective written and verbal communication.
  10. Strong organizational, problem analysis and decision-making skills.  Demonstrated ability to motivate peers and achieve cooperation.
  11. Strong planning and analytical abilities.
  12. Continuous learning mindset and commitment to professional growth and development.
  13. Proficiency in evaluating learning requirements and designing educational programs and corresponding support.
  14. Demonstrated ability in creating training materials, including defining goals and objectives, developing PowerPoint presentations, and preparing supporting materials.
  15. Must maintain a valid driver’s license in accordance with MTN motor vehicle policy.  Must have reliable personal automobile transportation to be used with company reimbursement using IRS guidelines.  Must be able to travel within the service area by ground or air.
  16. Ability to lift 50 pounds and transfer short distances.
  17. Possess ability to operate telephones, computers and office equipment.
  18. Ability to speak and communicate clearly in order to accurately convey information in person or by phone.
  19. OSHA Category II – Occasional exposure to bloodborne pathogens while performing assigned job duties.  Bloodborne pathogens protection is required.
  20. Home internet and wireless phone access may be required.
