TITLE: Grier Heights Program Coordinator 

DEPARTMENT: Learning & Engagement/Community Relations 

 

REPORTS TO: Director of Community Relations 

FLSA STATUS:  Non-Exempt  

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Part time 

 

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Grier Heights Program Coordinator coordinates the planning and oversees the implementation of the Mint Museum’s Grier Heights Youth Program to support the museum’s core values of leadership, integrity, inclusiveness, knowledge, stewardship, and innovation, promoting understanding of and respect for diverse peoples and cultures.  

 

  • The Grier Heights Youth Program (GHYP) Coordinator serves as a Mint ambassador and onsite coordinator and head educator for the GHYP weekly program that operates 35 weeks (about 8 months) per academic/CMS school year.  They will welcome GHYP students and parents, design and implement weekly programming and initiatives for students and oversee the communication and coordination between volunteers, contractors and staff. Works closely with Mint colleagues and Grier Heights community partners to ensure that the Grier Heights program supports students’ well-being, growth, and success.   

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Serve as a member of the Community Relations team, collaborating with colleagues to develop and deliver the Grier Heights Youth Program to align with the Mint Museum’s vision and mission. 

  • Meets regularly with the Director of Community Relations to discuss program activity and management 

  • Designs and/or provides oversight of the weekly GHYP program content and curriculum: Including: art education, reading, math, healthy living strategies, social and emotional learning, mental health, etiquette, and hygiene.  Prepares, plans, and instructs students using teaching strategies such as scaffolding instruction, and creating differentiated activities. 

  • Manage the weekly school year schedule as well as summer trips and outings 

  • Keep program attendance and records 

  • Maintain records of GHYP program expenses and logs these into an Excel spreadsheet to share with the Director of Community Relations  

  • Host discussions based on Mint Museum exhibition or collection topics.  

  • Coordinates Mint Museum visits and program outings to performances and events 

  • Maintain records of student work and assess progress in meeting students’ needs  

  • Provide classroom leadership and coordinate guest artists/instructors. 

  • Coordinate training for program volunteers/parents. 

  • Work with Health Therapist on issues and redirect student behavior as needed. 

  • Use progress monitoring to pinpoint students’ success and achievement in previously taught concepts. 

  • Develop and sustain relationships and two-way communication with Grier Heights parents/caregivers 

  • Communicate and coordinate with program volunteers and contractors, including expectations, schedules, needs, rules, and policies (inclement weather, behavior, recognition/ rewards for excellence and achievements, food, allergies, first aid). 

  • Represents the Mint Museum and the Grier Heights Program at neighborhood events, meetings, festivals.   

 

                  

 

 

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR CONSIDERATION: 

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in education, Art, or Social Sciences 

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:  3-5 experience in art education, program design, classroom teaching and or counseling 

WORKING CONDITIONS:   

Supervisory responsibilities: Oversees volunteers and contractors working for the Grier Heights Youth Program.  Oversight of classroom environment and attending students. Able to lift 10-15 lbs., ensure facilities are left clean and as found. Ensure volunteers have been vetted through the museum with background checks and basic training. 

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS/ATTRIBUTES:  Teacher Certification 

DESIRABLE FUNCTIONS:  Teacher assistant, work in the classroom and with the Grier Heights or a similar youth arts program
