TITLE: Processing Archivist

STATUS: Part-time, Temporary (multi-year)

LOCATION: In-Person

REPORTS TO: Director of Archives

DEPARTMENT: Archives

WORKS WITH: Historian and Founding Director of Preservation, Archivist, Digital Archivist, Project Archivist

COMPENSATION: $20-$25/hour

HOURS: 20 hours per week

SUMMER ONLY: Three meals a day, free access to classes, performances, talks, and studio usage. 

POSITION OVERVIEW

Jacob’s Pillow seeks a temporary (multi-year) part-time Processing Archivist to join the Archives team. Working with the Director of Preservation and Director of Archives, the Processing Archivist will process, arrange, describe, and catalog unprocessed archival materials housed in the Jacob’s Pillow Archives including Festival correspondence, business records, photographs, and audiovisual materials collected by the Director of Preservation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary:

  • Plan, track, and execute archival processing for unprocessed materials following institutional and national standards. Tasks include inventorying backlog, rehousing materials, and creating archival descriptions
  • Work with Jacob’s Pillow’s Collective Access database to create lot records for unprocessed collections, catalog objects, and create and edit finding aids

 

 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in Library/Information Science or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 1 year of experience processing, describing, and cataloging archival collections
  • Demonstrated skill handling archival materials (paper, photographic, and audiovisual)
  • Knowledge of technologies, standards, and best practices related to archival processing and description including DACS, EAD, and Dublin Core. Ideal candidates would have experience with Collective Access and/or performing arts cataloging
  • Dance subject specialization
  • Experience with Google Suite

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Frequent:

  • Mobility: stationary position, move short distances (up to 500 feet), operate computer, retrieve materials from high/low shelving, work in narrow aisles and passageways, transport materials <25 lb
  • Environment: working inside, working alone, working with others, working in shared office spaces, uneven surfaces

Occasional:

  • Communication: converse with staff
  • Mobility: ascend/descend ladders, transport materials >25 lb
