JOB SUMMARY

The PUA Sales Manager will manage the day-to-day operations of the sales team in our Wholesale Garden Center.  This position reports directly to the PUA Division Manager and is responsible for driving sales programs and ensuring excellent customer service through all stages of the sales process.  With an eye on sales forecasting, orders, quotes and reservations the Sales Manager will lead by example, be detail-oriented, organized and offer ongoing feedback and inspiration to the sales team.  Team building, through mentoring and feedback is essential as well as an inquisitive and problem-solving nature.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Understand customer needs and offer solutions calmly and efficiently.
  • Coordinate and approve sales representatives’ schedules and weekly timesheets.  Monitor each team member’s workloads and adjust as needed, maintaining adequate coverage.
  • Research and follow up on new business leads, new customers, as well as monitor each sales representative’s customer list seasonally.
  • Participate in the sales team hiring process, including recruitment, interview and follow up.
  • Offer weekly individual training and feedback to each member of the sales team.
  • Schedule and lead weekly sales meetings.
  • Monitor and manage the flow of product within the sales team.
  • Teach the team about new products seasonally and upcoming changes.
  • Identify training needs for the team and investigate and coordinate opportunities both in house and from the industry.
  • Evaluate on-the-job performance, complete formal reviews and provide discipline as needed.
  • Track weekly, monthly, and quarterly performance and sales metrics. Meet regularly with the Nursery management team, Buyers and connected services to improve product and process flow
  • Execute detailed documentation of all sales related and customer service processes to improve training and flow.
  • Act as a liaison between the sales team, the Division Manager, and other departments within the organization.
  • Look for system improvements in day-to-day activities as well as technology.

OTHER DUTIES

  • Execute the duties of the position in alignment with the Company Mission and Conduct Policies.
  • Complete required annual trainings as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Use technology as required by the position.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES

  • Lead a team of up to 10 Sales Representatives.
  • Perform time and attendance approvals for payroll.
  • Complete Performance Management documents including Performance Reviews and Performance Improvement Plans and conduct meetings with team members to discuss performance, goals and development opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with other managers to create a cohesive management team.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • 3+ years of sales experience.
  • Background in Horticulture or Nursery Sales.
  • Experience managing a team of people.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Leadership skills that mentor and inspire team members.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with Sage MAS 500, and handheld programs.
  • Strong customer service skills, ability to assess customers’ needs and provide correct answer, path, troubleshooting, or method for a positive customer experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to create and modify existing SOPs.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time efficiently, making decisions with a “big picture” mindset.
  • Adept at building bridges between other sales departments under the Cavicchio Umbrella.
