Job Description

We are looking for a responsible and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Tester to work in our clinic and support our doctors. This detail-oriented and multi-tasking person will perform pre-exam testing to include visual acuity assessment, color vision testing, lensometry, pupillary evaluation, tonometry, pupillary dilation, and all other patient services as requested by the doctors.

 

Duties & Responsibilities: Report to Clinical Supervisor

 

  • Assist in various tasks such as obtaining medical histories and measuring eye pressure.
  • Operate specialized equipment and educating patients on topics like proper administration of eye medications.
  • Perform visual acuity assessment and color vision testing.
  • Perform other pre-exam testing such as:  topographical mapping, lensometry, pupillary evaluation, tonometry, pupillary dilation, OCT, IOL master and all other patient services as requested by the doctor.
  • Instruct patients about medications, tests and procedures.
  • Complete the number of daily tasks assigned efficiently and in a timely manner. 
  • Meet given expectations weekly and monthly.
  • Coordinating patient scheduling.
  • In the exam room, record detailed information into the electronic medical record (EMR) on a laptop or computer as necessary.
  • Help with room loading and expediting as required.
  • Support the administrative team with additional tasks as needed to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Inform visitors of safety rules and practice as they are ready to leave.
  • Collaborate with other members of the department to ensure a smooth daily operation of the practice.
  • Help with other tasks assigned by the manager.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • An associate degree with 2 years of experience in the healthcare field is acceptable.
  • Graduating from a medical assistant program is preferred.
  • Certification in any medical field is a plus.
  • MS Office proficiency.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology and surgical procedures is an asset!
  • Proficient in the use of electronic medical records (EMR) systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
