Description

The Payroll and Benefits Specialist at North American Mental Health Services is responsible for managing all aspects of payroll and employee benefits administration. This role ensures employees are paid accurately and on time, benefits are correctly managed, and compliance is maintained with all applicable federal, state, and local laws. The Specialist will also assist with routine HR functions including onboarding, documentation, and employee inquiries. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, confidential, and highly organized with experience using Paycom.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Payroll Administration

  • Process and manage the full payroll cycle using Paycom, ensuring timely and accurate employee compensation.
  • Calculate wages, deductions, and taxes; oversee direct deposit and manual check distribution.
  • Address and resolve payroll discrepancies, timecard issues, and employee inquiries.
  • Prepare and submit payroll tax filings and support year-end processing (W-2s, 1099s).

Benefits Administration

  • Coordinate and administer employee benefits including health, disability, and retirement plans.
  • Assist employees with benefit enrollment and changes, acting as a liaison between employees and benefit vendors.
  • Support the annual open enrollment process and related communication initiatives.

HR Operations Support

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date human resource files, records, and documentation.
  • Assist with new hire onboarding and benefits orientation.
  • Respond to employee questions related to policies, benefits, and payroll; escalate complex inquiries to HR Manager as needed.
  • Obtain managerial approvals for time-off requests and input into Paycom.
  • Conduct periodic audits of HR and payroll records to ensure compliance.

Administrative Duties

  • Maintain organized credit card receipt files and complete monthly expense reports.
  • Support collection and distribution of mail and general office duties as needed.
  • Assist with planning and execution of special events such as benefit enrollments or employee recognition events.

Collaboration & Reporting

  • Collaborate with HR and Finance teams to ensure alignment and accuracy in payroll and benefit operations.
  • Generate regular reports on payroll, benefits usage, and other HR metrics for internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Human Resources, Business, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in payroll and benefits administration.
  • Experience with Paycom or similar payroll/HRIS systems required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams).
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state payroll regulations and benefits laws.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to confidentiality.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Payroll certification (e.g., CPP, FPC) is a plus.
