Overview:
The Rental Attendant is a Part-Time Year-Round position that is scheduled to work mainly evenings and weekends as scheduled. We offer competitive compensation, PTO and an employee discount for part-time employees.
Job Purpose:
The Part-Time Rental Attendant ensures a welcoming, safe, and clean environment at the Conservatory during rentals. Responsibilities include being present and helpful to renters, enforcing Park District policies professionally, setting up and taking down equipment, and handling cleaning before, during, and after events. The Attendant opens and secures the facility, monitors HVAC systems, and serves as the main contact for renters. They also report incidents and communicate effectively with the Rental & Facility Coordinator and Director.
Essential Functions:
- Open and prepare Conservatory for rental event. This may include the set up and take down of tables, chairs, equipment, etc. and the removal of snow and ice from entrances in the winter.
- Mop and clean restrooms and refill lavatory supplies as needed. Provide housekeeping such as cleaning floors, kitchens, tables and chairs.
- Maintain a safe and secure environment for staff, patrons and participants by supplying security for the Conservatory through a visible presence. Communicate and enforce Park District rules and policies to participants and patrons.
- Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive public image when working with patrons by addressing questions and concerns from staff, patrons, participants, and parents immediately. Contact and ask for assistance from the supervisor or other Park District staff when necessary.
- Report maintenance needs to supervisor; follow-up on status with supervisor and/or maintenance supervisor. Clean facility and pick up garbage from grounds as needed.
- Close and secure Conservatory and garden at end of rental and return all equipment to its proper place as specified by Park District.
- Wear a PDOP staff shirt and identification during all work hours. Follow and enforce all PDOP policies and procedures.
Additional Functions:
- Attend staff meetings and training programs as specified.
- Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor or other Park District administrative personnel.
- Must be a high school graduate or possess a GED. College coursework in Recreation, Education, Social Work, or related field preferred.
- Certification in advanced Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) within 1 month of employment and keep certification current. The District provides this training.
Knowledge, Skills, and Work Experience Required:
- Must have the ability to solve problems as they arise and be able to perform tasks without supervision.
- Must be highly motivated and able to assume a positive and active role in the conservatory even while working under potentially stressful conditions (hot or cold weather, upset or injured conservatory visitors, etc.)
- Must have the ability to be firm and professional with Conservatory visitors (both youth and adults) when necessary, enforce park district rules, and make sound decisions in order to secure the safety and well-being of all Conservatory visitors, facilities, and equipment.
- Must be able to complete required Park District training.
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends.

- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Will be exposed to occasional inclement weather including heat, humidity, cold, rain, snow, ice and wind.
