Pierce County’s only Certified Community Behavioral Health: Comprehensive Life Resources is looking for a passionate Mental Health Counselor Trainee to join our Outreach team in Tacoma.

Scope 

To develop basic counseling skills in non-MA level staff that will provide increased access to services and better outcomes for clients. Provide counseling services as part of a Pierce County grant. Work may be in the clinic, community, shelters, and/or other clinical settings, depending on client needs. Serves as a member of the organization that welcomes, engages and serves individuals with complex needs.  Collaborate with team members to help meet clients individualized mental health needs. Work with partner agencies as needed to foster whole health support.

 

This is an outreach position with the expectation of working in the community a minimum of 50% of the time. Outreach workers must be able to meet clients where they are, which may include working in varying hazard/unsanitary conditions and being able to navigate a variety of terrain in all types of weather.

 

This position requires driving to and from locations where clients are located and may include driving clients.

 

Responsibilities

 

Under supervision and with significant guidance:

 

  • Provide clinical case coordination and counseling to assigned clients
  • Work as part of a clinical care team to provide integrated healthcare to consumers at CLR
  • Complete mental health assessment, provisional diagnosis, and risk assessment, reviewed and confirmed by a master’s level mental health professional, ARNP or psychiatric provider.
  • Work with clients (and multidisciplinary team members when applicable) to create treatment plans.
  • Complete risk assessments and coordinate treatment planning and services with other program staff, other consultants, relevant agencies, and individuals, e.g. DOC, hospitals, Congregate Care Facilities etc.)
  • Work with clients to achieve treatment goals; utilize Motivational Interviewing Techniques to engage clients in the recovery process.
  • Complete paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Keep records up to date and in compliance with WAC, Title XIX and agency requirements.
  • Attend treatment team meetings, staff meetings, and designated staff training and consultation sessions.
  • Ensure that ethical and professional standards of practice are maintained.
  • Provide support and counseling to client’s family and natural supports as appropriate.
  • Be prepared to respond to client crisis as appropriate or needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Participating in MH Counselor training at CLR
  • Demonstrated ability to meet productivity and clinical paperwork standards
  • Demonstrated ability to work with mentally ill individuals 
  • WA State credential
  • Strong computer skills
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, written, and verbal communications skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize deadlines, work independently, take initiative, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license; proof of insurance.
