ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:
Since 1993, the Northwest Arkansas Children’s Shelter (NWACS) has cared for more than 12,000 children in crisis from throughout the state of Arkansas. As the largest emergency children’s shelter in the state, NWACS annually serves hundreds of children who have been abused, abandoned or neglected. Our 32-bed, state-of-the-art complex offers an array of trauma-informed services including onsite counseling and therapy, medical services, and a school. The combination of these features creates a stable, secure and loving environment where children who have experienced abuse, abandonment or neglect can begin to heal.

THE POSITION:Â
The Facilities Manager oversees all building related activities and reports to the vice president of operations. This position is responsible for preserving and maintaining the good condition of infrastructure and ensuring that facilities are safe and well-functioning. The Facilities Manager is responsible for all building and grounds maintenance.Â
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine preventive maintenance and inspections on facilities, equipment, and fixtures following established schedules.
- Â Complete daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance checklists and document completion.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
- Install, remove, or replace equipment as needed efficiently.
- Perform general upkeep, including painting, minor construction, and repair of interior and exterior spaces.
- Assemble, repair, or maintain small items such as toys, bikes, and play equipment.
- Respond promptly to maintenance emergencies and safety concerns.
- Maintain overall cleanliness, organization, and safety of all buildings and common areas.
- Manage lawn care, landscaping, and storm/weather-related cleanup (snow/ice removal, branch/debris removal, water pooling mitigation).
- Ensure waste disposal, recycling, and storage areas meet compliance standards.
- Oversee upkeep of all facility equipment, tools, and supplies.
- Perform basic vehicle maintenance and ensure the shelter’s fleet is safe, compliant, and in good working order.
- Assist with warehouse organization and management of inventory and supplies.
- Support donation intake and transport as needed.
- Inspect buildings to identify immediate and future repair or renovation needs.
- Plan and coordinate installations (telecom, HVAC, security, electricity, etc.) and refurbishments.
- Review systems and procedures to streamline processes, optimize use of space and resources, and reduce costs.
- Assist with set-up, breakdown, and transport of equipment for special events.
- Support special projects assigned by the Vice President of Operations.
- Oversee and support facilities volunteers, ensuring safe and effective use of their skills.
- Collaborate with the VP of Operations and Volunteer & Operations Coordinator to scope and plan volunteer projects.
- Oversee external contractors and service providers; manage service contracts and insurance requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, repairs, and preventive schedules.
- Monitor budgets, costs, and resources; assist with financial planning and forecasting.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, insurance requirements, and applicable federal and state regulations.
- Complete all required documentation in a timely manner per agency procedures.
