  • Operational focus: Personnel/Customer Service Management and Staff Development
    • Help to train a team that is capable of carrying out complex orders from customer interaction all the way to invoicing from the vendor
    • Create a cohesive sales team environment: by training and leading by example
    • Train and encourage new product knowledge for advancing other sales associates (complex special orders, help lead trainings on doors/windows/beams/etc.)
    • Create operational plans for efficiencies between the yard and sales
      • Work with yard supervisor to streamline areas of frustration or major time lags
    • Assist in product training
      • Taking time with new outside staff to train product knowledge
      • Day-to-day involvement in trainings and acting as a general resource (needs to be actively involved in the department on a daily basis – Primesource, Orgill, etc.)
    • Inventory: assist or train a team that is capable of executing inventory and cycle counts
    • HR backup:
      • Familiar with Work Compensation processes and document requirements
      • Familiar with how to process an incident, accident, or safety concern
      • Has completed reasonable suspicion training
      • Ability to handle and diffuse customer and/or employee situations

Departmental Detail:

  • Personnel Development
    • Working with Manager to assign tasks and roles to staff
    • Working with Manager to assign schedules for optimal staffing
    • Addressing store issues, and assigning projects to staff
    • Train staff in different operational roles; either through direct training or assigning them to the appropriate staff member for education
  • Sales/Customer Service
    • Train other staff members in positive customer service
    • Continue advanced sales role: bids/quotes, special orders, doors/windows
    • Train other staff members in special orders: metal, windows, doors, hardware, beams, etc.
      • Special order set-up
      • Purchase order set-up with confirmation from vendor
      • Customer involvement/approval
      • Receipt/customer contact
      • Invoicing
  • Fleet/Dispatch
    • Help keep orders and order monitor moving through the day, working alongside yard/dispatch/sales staff
    • Ensure truck logs are entered – backup role
  • Inventory
    • Work collaboratively with Manager and inventory team to make sure all counts are done on time and accurately
    • Work with Purchasing/Inventory departments to identify problems
    • Train a team that is capable of carrying out counts as needed
  • Hardware ordering
    • Ability to do Primesource ordering
    • Ability to do Orgill ordering
  • Accounts Receivable
    • Backup contact for store-level customer communication regarding payments, credits, or any other financial questions
      • Responsible for assisting in making customer contacts in a timely fashion, documenting them in the Notes tab, and following up as needed
      • Voice concerns regarding customer account status before they default (if there is a bad feeling about a customer, please share it with the AR department)

    • Staff development – working with multiple communication styles to develop the right mode of communication with different staff members in different situations
    • Make sure all team members are aware of their expectations
    • Where possible, all communications between sales, customers, and dispatch should be written as well as spoken
    • Sales & Team Development – Ensure team growth and positive outcomes; communicate with Management if an employee is failing
  • Organization:
    • Maintain a daily and weekly project list or calendar for self and for any assignments given to other staff
    • Plan ahead on projects: try to work at least a few days ahead to keep things moving
    • Keep notes updated on project statuses for quick reference of expected completion dates and to keep others accountable
