Description

StarCare Specialty Health System (StarCare) is seeking a part time/on-call Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to join our team in the Inpatient Unit at Sunrise Canyon Hospital. 

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) performs work under the direct supervision of the Charge Nurse, Director of Nursing (DON), in Coordination with SRC Hospital Administrator. This role ensures compliance with the Licensed Vocational Nurse Practice Act, and Center and Hospital policies, procedures, and standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining nursing standards in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, and StarCare Specialty Health Systems and Hospital policies, procedures, and standards.

  • Administers prescribed medications.

  • Maintains medical records.

  • Assists with other aspects of medication management in partnership with the patient and family, per physician’s order and in compliance with regulatory and other agency policies.

  • May provide collaborative nursing care with a registered nurse which involves observation, focus-based nursing assessment, planning, implementation and/or interventions, and evaluation of outcomes.

  • Documents, communicates, and collaborates in all aspects of patient care with other shift RNs to ensure 24-hour continuity of care.

  • Assists with the work of RNs and Mental Health Specialists, and the supervisor and/or other Center staff with special assignments and/or projects.

Schedule: This is a part-time/non-exempt position with a set 12-hour shift schedule from 7:45pm – 8am or 7:45am – 8pm, with flexibility for adequate nursing coverage on the unit.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Licensed Vocational Nurse license valid in Texas.
  • Basic life support certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Up to one year of specialized or technical training beyond high school in full-time experience as a practicing Licensed Vocational Nurse in a recognized public health agency, hospital or health care facility preferred.
  • Six months to one year of experience as a mental health specialist or behavioral health technician in a recognized public health agency, hospital, or health care facility.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge and skills to use a computer and document in a timely and professional manner.
  • Knowledge and skill in current health care standards.
  • Knowledge of infection control practices.
  • Knowledge in infection control and Licensed Vocational Nurse scope of practice.
  • Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with other employees and the public.
  • Skill and capability of accurately observing and identifying significant patient behaviors and possesses the capability of accurately describing such events in the electronic medical record.
  • Ability to perform CPR, Heimlich Maneuver, First Aid, SAMA, etc.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must pass a pre-hire drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Must have a Texas driver's license, liability auto insurance, and be insurable under the Agency's insurance.
