Description

This position leads and performs advanced maintenance for Bystronic, Mazak, BLM, Haas, CNC steel manufacturing systems, press brakes, and supporting automation systems. This role will both conduct the repair and maintenance on our array of machines combined with providing leadership of a small maintenance crew developing them with the expert technical training to repair and maintain the equipment to ensure maximum uptime across all production departments in our steel manufacturing plant. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Preventive & Predictive Maintenance: Execute and assist to oversee regular maintenance on Bystronic, Mazak, and other CNC lasers, press brakes, and other plant machinery.  Order parts as necessary.
  • Troubleshooting & Repairs: Diagnose and repair complex electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical failures to minimize downtime.
  • Supervision & Scheduling: Assign daily maintenance tasks, prioritize emergency repairs, mentor junior techs, and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
  • Vendor Coordination: Work with OEM service teams (Bystronic and others) for escalated troubleshooting, parts sourcing, and warranty claims.
  • System Installation & Upgrades: Lead installation and commissioning of new production equipment and automation systems.
  • Performance Tracking: Monitor equipment KPIs, track preventive maintenance compliance, and recommend continuous improvement actions.
  • Training: Provide advanced equipment operation and basic troubleshooting training to production operators.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate maintenance logs, parts inventory, and work orders in CMMS or manual logs.
  • Any additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: 5–7+ years in industrial maintenance, with 3+ years in CNC laser cutting equipment (Bystronic preferred).
  • Certification: Bystronic maintenance certification or documented OEM training required.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) troubleshooting (Siemens, Fanuc, Beckhoff), CNC control repair, and high-voltage systems.
  • Leadership: Proven experience leading maintenance teams in a manufacturing setting.
  • Safety: Strong knowledge of OSHA requirements for steel manufacturing environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Crane and forklift maintenance experience.
  • Welding equipment troubleshooting.
  • Lean manufacturing or TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) training.
  • Industry 4.0 smart-equipment integration knowledge.

Physical & Environmental Requirements

  • Lift up to 50 lbs. and work at heights (ladders, catwalks).
  • Tolerate heat, noise, dust, and working near active steel fabrication.
  • Work in PPE-required areas, including welding and laser zones.
