       POSITION PURPOSE AND SUMMARY

This position organizationally falls under the Head Start Director of the Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma. Operational hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 3:00 pm, or as needed to. The purpose of this position is to perform those duties as may be commonly associated with housekeeping in such a way to promote the cleanliness and sanitary environment to enhance the appearance of the Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma while reducing the spread of infection by sweeping and mopping.

 

 

Tasks are as follows, but not limited to:

  1. Performs heavy duties by cleaning floor, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and/or vacuuming, shampooing (clean) carpets and dry carpets, preps, strip, applies finish, spray, and buffs tile floor(s). Including moving all furniture off carpeted areas and vacuuming.
  2. Gathers and empties trash cans, paper shredders and transports trash to disposal area. Wash the area around garbage cans.
  3. Cleans and polishes furniture and fixtures with approved cleaners.
  4. Clean and sanitize all chairs, tables, shelves, and cupboards.
  5. Cleans windows, door panels, mirrors, and sills inside and out.
  6. All mats are to be cleaned, vacuumed, or wiped down.
  7. Disinfect all doorknobs, chairs, and tables.
  8. Mixes water and detergents in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications to prevent damage to floors and fixtures and/or self-injury.
  9. Cleans and stocks all dispensers, such as soap, sanitizer, shampoo, sanitary waste boxes, toilet paper and towels, etc.
  10. Performs daily visual checks of outside perimeter for trash, debris, and/or safety issues.
  11. Notifies supervisor or designee concerning the needs for repairs, safely issues to building(s) operating systems, including but not limited to:
    • Need for cleaning supplies or equipment repair in advance.
    • Water leaks, and other maintenance needs,
  12. Ability to perform Teacher’s Assistant duties (floater) as needed.
  13. The incumbent must be flexible in order to undertake a variety of miscellaneous duties as assigned by the supervisor or team leader,

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBLITIES

 

Must be self-motivated and be able to work with little or no supervision. A supervisor will make periodic visual inspections of the assigned areas, as well as accepting reports from other staff members.

 

Prompt and daily attendance is of utmost importance; failure to be on the job not only disrupts the smooth functioning of the employee’s own job, but also inconveniences the other interrelated jobs. The success of an employee depends in large measure on how well the job is done each day.

  • WORK ENVIRONMENT

Physical:

  • Constant standing during shift.
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive arm/hand movements.
  • Frequent lifting of 25-50 pounds.
  • Occasional pushing and pulling of heavy furniture and equipment.

Environmental: Occasional discomforts dealing with unpleasant situations, exposure to dust, fumes, odors, gases, chemical substances, and electrical currents. Incumbents may have exposure to urine/feces/blood/saliva.

Qualifications

 

MINIMUM MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS

       

 

Education and Experience: 

High School Diploma or GED

Equivalent combinations of education and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis.  

 

Additional Qualifications

  • Ability to operate and use janitorial tools, equipment, and supplies such as floor buffers, vacuum cleaners, and cleaning compounds and solutions.
  • Knowledge of maintaining, cleaning, and preserving a variety of surfaces; proper use of a wide range of chemicals according to state and Federal regulations; handling and disposing of hazardous materials.
  • Knowledge of the standard methods, practices, tools, and equipment used to clean floors and furniture.
  • Ability to interpret instructions, specifications to cleaning solutions, and other technical information.
  • Ability to do the work of the position with or without direct supervision.
  • Awareness and knowledge of agency safety standards.
  • Must be currently enrolled in Child Care Division-Criminal History Registry.

    Must have excellent communication skills both verbally and written.

In performance of their respective tasks and duties all employees of The Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma Center are expected to conform to the following:

  • To report and document accidents/injuries immediately to supervisor.
  • Attends all scheduled employee trainings and brings suggestions for improvement.

At-Will Employer:

 

In reference to Personnel Policy, Section 1-24, Employment At-Will.  All employees who do not have a written contract with the employer for a specific fixed term of employment are thereby employed at the will of the employer for an indefinite period. Employment with the Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma, without a written contract, is voluntary and therefore employees are free to resign at will at any time with or without cause or reason. Likewise, Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma may terminate the employment relationship at will at any time with or without notice and for any lawful reason deemed appropriate by the Tribe and the staff or for good cause, bad cause, or no cause at all. This policy is commonly referred to as “employment-at-will.”
