Engineering Design and Fabrication Manager

Summary This position will manage mechanical design and engineering personnel across several business divisions including trailers, sheet metal, freshwater and saltwater towers, and other accessories produced within Marine Components.  This role will partner directly with our customers’ engineering teams to understand their needs, then follow our Product Development Process to earn the business by designing innovative, reliable, and manufacturable products at competitive prices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain, and develop as required, standardized best engineering practices for new product and process development – Research and development, BOM and drawing creation, development timelines, testing, validation, file management, capabilities assessment, failure analysis and others
• Work with customers internally and externally, and identify requirements for new and existing products including engineering feasibility, design for manufacturing, cost, customer demand, attainable market, and value added
• Ensure product development projects are on time, on budget, and meet customer requirements
• Work, manage, and/or participate with cross functional teams to support, RFQ, order management, invoicing, and delivery of new products
• Manage and support manufacturing and process engineering in integration of new products.
• Responsible for the preparation and management of estimates, cost reports, and project schedules for multiple projects and suppliers.
• Provide cross-departmental support and effective communication of all areas of responsibility with a specific focus on daily manufacturing support and continuous quality improvements.
• Identifies opportunities for product improvements to enhance the form, fit, and function of current and new designs.
• Investigate system/product weaknesses to continuously improve and prevent future issues.
• Work with outside vendors/suppliers to provide feedback on product design, areas of improvement, and testing results.
• Use engineering CAD/CAM software for engineering design and manufacturing including various methods of fabrication with manual control and CNC machines

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience                                               

BSME, or related degree from ABET accredited University required

Minimum 10 yrs experience in mechanical design and product development required

Minimum 10 yrs experience in manufacturing environment

Minimum 10 yrs experience in SolidWorks, NX, Catia, or Creo required

Desired experience in Mechanical design in some or all areas: CNC milling production, metal tube and pipe bending, welding, and finishing, sheet metal fabrication, injection molding, extrusion, vacuum forming, paint and finishing processes

Language Skills                                                          

English required. Effective communication skills will be necessary to perform tasks.

Mathematical Skills                                                  

Will use mathematics to solve problems, up to the algebraic level.
