SUMMARY
This position is responsible for providing children and their families developmental, educational, and therapeutic interventions. Supports growth and development while recognizing family strengths, and individuality and respecting different methods of coping. Supports the organization in providing a positive and supportive environment of care for the patients and their families.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Leads normal play activities for patients/families.
Participates in multidisciplinary health care teams.
Provides procedural preparation and support for invasive procedures to alleviate a child’s stress and fear.
Advocates for pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical interventions and treatment plans that promote positive coping and assists staff, patients, and families in creating coping plans for procedures and other therapeutic interventions to help promote a positive experience.
Provides developmental and psychosocial observations/assessments and interventions as appropriate.
Provides opportunity for medical play and therapeutic activities.
Performs other duties as required and assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with patients, their families, clinic staff and community members.
Ability to operate personal computer and related office equipment as needed to perform job function.
Ability to make accurate assessments, and observations of patient needs and to develop programs and activities to decrease anxiety and stress.
Ability to function as a team member and develop strategies to assist patients and families adjust to the medical diagnosis and treatment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Master’s Degree required
Experience:
One or more years related experience required
Licenses and Certificates:
Certified Child Life Specialist Certificate required
BLS certification required

FINGERPRINT CLEARANCE
Employees are required to maintain a current Department of Public Safety Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card. Proof of a current fingerprint clearance card must be received within 90 days of employment.

The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and risk of radiation. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may potentially be exposed to infectious organisms during routine and emergency situations. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
