Position Description

DEPARTMENT:                  Recreation

TITLE:                                  Soccer Program Coordinator

CLASSIFICATION:              Part-Time, Non-Exempt

 

SUMMARY OF POSITION:  Responsible for organizing and managing the seasonal operations of the indoor youth and adult soccer program at the DeKalb Park District’s Sports and Recreation Center (SRC) and outdoor athletic fields.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:  Reports to Athletic Coordinator.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:  Oversees program participants, coaches, referees and spectators.

  • Responsible for recruiting and forming teams and leagues, recruiting coaches and referees, creation of game schedules, and promoting the park district’s soccer program within the community.  

 

  • Organize and coordinate program registration and develop rosters and team/league lists.

 

  • Assist with weekly youth soccer classes.

 

  • Organize and facilitate drop-in soccer nights.

 

  • Communicate rosters, schedules, league rules and other essential league information to coaches and teams on a timely basis.

 

  • Be visible and available to coaches, referees and participants during games, monitor league play and perform game management duties, and address any coach, player or spectator questions or concerns.

 

  • Perform various facility functions including arriving 1-hour prior to the first scheduled game to inspect field and equipment conditions to identify and address any problems or potential hazards. Open and close facility as assigned.  

 

  • Communicate with coaches, referees, parents and participants on a regular basis.

 

  • Enforce all league rules and regulations.  Fill in as a referee as needed.

 

  • Notify the Athletic Coordinator of any unusual situations regarding the operation of the program such as broken equipment, accidents, site damage, and unsportsmanlike conduct of players, coaches or spectators.

 

  • Monitor participants and spectators during the game.

 

  • Demonstrate and support park district customer service standards.

 

  • Assist with emergency procedures and program site evacuation; administer first aid when necessary.

 

  • Perform all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the park district’s safety policy, including completing incident reports on a timely basis.

 

  • Other duties as assigned.

               

PERIPHERAL DUTIES:

  • Assists with general upkeep of program site including light janitorial duties as necessary.

 

  • Assists with any special projects related to a game or event.

 

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education and Experience:
  • Must be age 21 or older.

 

  • Two (2) – four (4) years of experience leading and managing youth and/or adult soccer leagues.

 

  • Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

  • Must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the game of soccer including the rules and regulations of the sport.

 

  • Ability to interact with patrons and co-workers in a professional and positive manner and exhibit effective customer service skills.

 

  • Ability to resolve differences and conflicts with patrons that may arise in a diplomatic manner, or when necessary, seek the assistance of the Athletic Coordinator or Superintendent of Recreation.

 

  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

 

  • Strong organizational, administrative, and written and oral communication skills.

 

  • Basic computer skills and the ability to understand and use park district registration software.

 

  • Possess or willingness to obtain CPR and AED certification.

 

  • Ability to work Fridays – Sundays consistently from November – March with additional days required.

 

  • Possesses a referee certification with a recognized soccer governing body.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to speak, listen, stand, walk, jog/run, use hands, sit, stoop, kneel, and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision requirements include distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The individual may need to stand for prolonged periods of time and may be required to walk, run, jog, or perform other physical maneuvers in order to referee a soccer game.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works near people playing a variety of sports, instructors conducting youth/adult activities or specialized program classes. The employee will be required to work indoors at the Sports and Recreation Center and/or outside at a park district athletic field. When working outside the employee may be exposed to various weather conditions, including wet, cold, hot, and humid conditions. The employee may also work in an office environment near computers, fax machines, telephones, copiers and other office machinery.
