SUMMARY
Performs skilled technical work in the installation, maintenance, repair, modification and testing of communications equipment, security and access control equipment. The Technician also assists with mobile vehicular electronics and computers. All work is performed in accordance with the rules and regulations of the FCC, FAA, TIA and other regulatory entities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Installs two-way radio mobile transceivers, electronic sirens, emergency lighting systems, MDT and associated electronic equipment.
- Installation of MDT, wireless modem, wireless access point and associated equipment.
- Organize and maintain an up to date inventory of all parts on hand.
- Installation of structured wiring; CAT5, CAT6, RG6 and low voltage wiring.
- Assist with installation, maintenance, repairs and deployment of emergency communications and power generating equipment.
- Assist with inspection of mobile, portable and fixed radio communications systems to ensure compliance with manufacturer’s specifications.
- Assist with maintenance, repairs, and adjustment of equipment in vehicles and stations to precision tolerances specified by the Federal Communications Commission.
- Test operational capabilities of mobile installations.
- Provide ground assistance for base station, radio tower, microwave antenna and transmission line installations.
- Assist in installing two-way base communications, microwave, audio, control and associated electronic equipment.
- Maintains documentation of radio inventory and radio repairs.
- Program mobile, portable and fixed radio equipment.
- Assist with installation and maintenance of station alerting systems including amplifiers, speakers, decoders and radios.
- Performs related work as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Certificate from college or technical school or three to six months related experience and training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
SKILLS and KNOWLEDGE
- Moderate word processing, database, and spreadsheet skills required.
- Basic Email and internet skills required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Current Texas Driver's License.
- Remain insurable by the current insurance vendor of MCHD.
- APCO certification a plus, but not required.
