Activity Assistant

The Activity Department is a fun and rewarding work environment at Wiley. The Activity Assistant helps our residents by creating therapeutic and fun activities and events to enjoy. The Activity Assistant ensures our residents live a fulfilling life at Wiley. In this role you will develop and implement programs including arts and crafts, games, parties, music, entertainment and special events. All activities are designed to meet the physical, social, spiritual, intellectual and cultural and recreational needs and interests of the residents in various residential settings.

Essential responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Prepare for and lead various programs such as, but not limited to , arts and crafts, hymn sings, sing-a-longs, reminisce and recall, current events, discussion groups, indoor and outdoor active games, and table and word games.
• Contact and encourage residents to attend out-of-room activities and transport residents to and from programs.
• Assist Activity Director in preparation of monthly newsletter and calendar.
• Decorate the Home and bulletin boards for all major holidays and seasons.
• Lead, facilitate and implement activity programs.
• Assist residents on out of facility trips.
• Some evening, weekend and holiday work is required.

Requirements:

• High School education.
• Experience with seniors in structured setting preferred.
• Able to read, speak and write English fluently.
• Ability to communicate easily and engage others in conversation.
• Good listener.
• Demonstrates patience and empathy when dealing with others.
• Stands and walks during the day.
• Deals with the public and residents under all conditions and circumstances.
• Will need to push wheelchairs and jery chairs, and escort residents to activities.
• Some lifting of materials and supplies required.
