Job Summary:Â
Medical Assistants perform routine administrative and clinical tasks to keep the offices of physicians and other health practitioners running smoothly. The duties of Medical Assistants vary from setting to setting, depending on the size, location, and type. In addition to administrative duties, Medical Assistants perform clinical duties in accordance with state law.Â
Position Responsibilities: (include, but are not limited to)Â
Clerical:Â

Greets patients and ensures completion of registration formsÂ

Calls in prescriptions to the pharmacyÂ

Punctual and dependent for assigned/confirmed shiftsÂ
-
Updates or populates patient chart with relevant medical data updating as needed.Â

Performs accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all timesÂ
-
Assists in orientation and training of new M.A.’s and scribesÂ
-
Comprehends and adheres to all rules, regulations, and procedures of the Practice Compliance Program, including OIG Program, HIPAA, OSHA, CLIA, and any other state, local, or federally mandated regulations that affect a physician’s officeÂ

Ensures computer programs are locked when leaving patient rooms, nurse’s station, and shut down all computer at the end of the dayÂ
-
Follows protocol for each doctor, being aware of individual preferences.Â

Informs practice administrator of any concerns related to compliance issues (OIG, HIPAA Privacy and Security, State medical board etc.)Â
-
Directs patients to checkout after their visit.Â
-
Represents the practice and its staff and physicians in a professional, courteous, and respectful manner on or off property.Â

Cross-trains to cover phones, front desk, medical records when needed.Â
-
Performs any other duties as requested and delegated by the physician or practice administrator.Â

Calls in prescriptions to the pharmacy.Â
-
Responsible to start prior authorizations of medications.Â
Clinical:Â
-
Verifies imaging studies, pathology, and lab reports, etc. in patient charts for physician before patient appointmentÂ
-
Maintains supplies, equipment, stocks, and sterilizes instrumentsÂ
-
Cleans rooms and removes instruments/exam items after each patient, setting up tray to physician preference.Â
-
Washes instruments and empties exam room trash cans at the end of the dayÂ
-
Ensures there are enough clean instruments in the exam rooms for physician use.Â
-
Autoclaves instruments as necessary.Â
-
Sterilizes scopes.Â
-
Measures and records vital signs, and records patient interview, history, and chief complaintÂ
-
Assists physician with exams and in-office surgery procedures, and performs medical assisting procedures under supervision of, or as delegated by a physicianÂ
-
Performs scribe duties when the physician examines the patient, and records all data as dictated by the physician in the exam roomÂ
-
Prepares the note for electronic signature and checks to be sure the physician has signed off on all notes for the dayÂ
-
Maintains autoclave and suction cannistersÂ
-
Assists with Pharmaceutical Rep. Visits and is responsible for maintaining and stocking drug samples.Â

Assists the physician with pharmacy and patient calls for refillsÂ
-
Responds to tasks created in the EMR, and is responsible for communicating any patient concern to the appropriate physician, bringing any relevant data that will guide the physician in the decision-making process.Â

Keeps work area clean, neat, and safe as required by OSHA, and free of food and any moisture.Â
Physical Requirements:Â

Activity includes, but is not limited to walking, standing, bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting.Â

Manipulating equipment, as well as lifting and moving objects, equipment, and supplies. Â

Ability to lifting 30-50 pounds, push and pull 75 pounds.Â

Manual dexterity sufficient to operate office equipmentÂ
