Summary:
This position is accountable for the ongoing analysis of process constraints, target costing projects, margin analysis, and tracing costs back to underlying activities. The cost analyst must also construct and monitor those cost-effective data accumulation systems needed to provide an appropriate level of costing information to management. The cost analyst is a focal position for developing annual operating plans, and ad-hoc financial forecasting.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participate in continuous improvement projects; take advantage of tools and programs that will increase the efficiency and accuracy of accounting practices
- Ad-hoc financial analysis and financial reporting including variances to plan
- Prepare monthly journal entries, maintain various general ledger support schedules, and analyze accounting transactions for proper classification
- Generate and distribute recurring reports that measure the metrics of the site and provide clear, concise information, while providing accurate and transparent reporting into the financial statements for internal and external stakeholders
- Support the monthly closing activities including balance sheet account reconciliations and other accounting projects, as assigned
- Validate the cost of goods sold as part of the month-end close
- Forecast and apply overhead costs as required by generally accepted accounting principles
- Work with functional leaders on analysis of obsolete inventory for disposition
- Plan, study, and collect data to determine costs of business activity such as raw material purchases, inventory and labor
- Communicate effectively (verbal and written) with all contacts
