Job Summary

The CAD Technician plays a key role in supporting engineering projects by creating and modifying 3D CAD models and 2D detail drawings. This position ensures all designs adhere to company and industry drafting standards and is responsible for the accurate processing and release of documentation in accordance with company procedures. The CAD Technician will collaborate with engineers and other team members to ensure that all project specifications are met, delivering high-quality drafts that support project timelines and goals. This position requires a strong understanding of drafting software, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining accuracy and efficiency throughout the design process.

Key Responsibilities

• Create / modify / revise as needed:
  • 3D parts and assemblies and associated 2D documentation to support the Structural Team
  • 3D hydraulic routing models and associated 2D documentation to support the Hydraulic Team
  • 3D harness routing models and associated 2D documentation to support the Electrical Team
• Demonstrate knowledge of generally accepted industry drafting standards and company internal drafting standards
• Utilize and maintain PDM database per internal company standards
• Utilize Visual ERP system data entry/maintenance for piece parts and BOMs to support manufacturing
• Meet schedules and deadlines and complete assignments, projects, and goals within the allotted timeframe
• Travel to Manufacturing facility located in Southwest Virginia as needed.

• Education:
  • Associate’s degree or technical certification in Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Engineering Technology, or a related field.
• Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years CAD work experience, with demonstrated proficiency in 3D solid modeling, including complex assemblies and drawings.  SolidWorks experience is required. 
  • Basic knowledge/understanding of mechanical systems, welding and manufacturing processes
• Software Proficiency:
  • Experience with the following is desirable but not strictly required:
    • Solidworks Routing functionality (for hose and harness routing)
    • Solidworks PDM Professional
      • Catia V5
      • Autocad / Draftsight
      • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and project management tools is a plus.
• Documentation & Standards:
  • Experience working with engineering documentation and adhering to company-specific standards for drawings and project specifications.
• Communication Skills:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively collaborate with engineers and other stakeholders via email and on Microsoft Teams videoconferencing.
  • Ability to clearly present design ideas, revisions, and project updates to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Knowledge of Industry Standards:
  • Familiarity with industry-specific standards for drafting and design in fields such as architecture, engineering, and manufacturing.
  • Ability to stay updated on changes to design and drafting standards to ensure compliance.
• Time Management:
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks and working under tight deadlines to support ongoing projects.
  • Proven ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision while maintaining high-quality output.

Pay Range

Estimated Salary Range: $58,600 to $63,500 annually (DOE)
