Job Summary:

The Midlevel Mechanic is responsible for performing intermediate to advanced mechanical repairs and maintenance on vehicles and equipment owned by National Construction Rentals, Inc. (NCR). This role involves diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical issues, conducting scheduled preventive maintenance, and ensuring compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements. The Midlevel Mechanic may also provide guidance and assistance to junior mechanics as needed to ensure efficient and effective operations.

Essential Functions

  • Perform advanced mechanical repairs and replacements on transmissions, engines, brakes, gearboxes, and other major and minor vehicle components to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Collaborate closely with Dispatchers to coordinate project schedules and daily work assignments.
  • Conduct thorough inspections and perform scheduled maintenance, tune-ups, and troubleshooting on trucks according to manufacturer guidelines.
  • Execute truck frame repairs, including acetylene welding and painting, to maintain structural integrity and safety standards.
  • Utilize diagnostic software and tools proficiently to diagnose and repair vehicle issues effectively.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, adhering to all safety protocols and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Review and approve repair orders from external vendors, ensuring compliance with company standards and policies.
  • Report any misuse or abuse of company assets promptly.

 

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Five years of experience in professional automotive maintenance and repair, with at least two years focused on repairing and maintaining commercial trucks or equivalent certified training/education.
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret detailed documents such as operating and maintenance instructions or procedural manuals.
  • Proficiency in executing routine tasks based on verbal and written mechanical guidelines.
  • Experience using automotive diagnostic equipment.
  • Proficiency in acetylene welding.
  • Valid Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL) required for vehicle road testing; Class A license preferred.
  • Must obtain a DOT Medical Card to operate company vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 10,000 lbs. or more.
  • A forklift certification will be provided after hire.
  • Airbrake certification.

Physical Demands:

  • Duties frequently involve lifting objects weighing up to 25 pounds, with occasional lifting of items weighing between 50 and 100 pounds.
  • The work environment exposes employees to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and inclement weather conditions. Additionally, the job entails exposure to loud machines, vehicles, and mechanical noises.
