SUMMARY

Provide for the safe uphill transportation of guests by supervising the daily RFID scanning and ski lift operations, and the personnel who operate them.  Confers regularly with immediate supervisor and other company departments/personnel, especially Lift Maintenance, to plan, coordinate and evaluate activities, exchange information, and resolve problems.  As a customer focused organization, a crucial part of each employee’s job is to get and keep guests.

 

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 

  1. Hires, motivates, evaluates, and directs staff to ensure adequate guidance and resources to accomplish established goals and objectives.  Ensures that all employees receive the training, support, guidance, feedback, and resources necessary.
  2. Directs the establishment of departmental standards, guidelines, and objectives and maintains other administrative processes such as budgeting and staffing to ensure proper planning, efficient operation of departments and successful achievement of resort goals.
  3. Establishes and evaluates financial and profitability goals through annual capital and budget plan process.
  4. Monitors and evaluates operational projects to ensure the successful execution of activities and to improve the effectiveness of the areas of responsibility.
  5. Represents resort at industry specific and local community functions as necessary to contribute operational expertise and value.
  6. Maintains and enhances a guest focused culture in all areas of responsibility.
  7. Maintains schedules in compliance with regulations and authorities having jurisdiction; manages responsibilities in compliance with resort safety policies.
  8. Maintains current status on legal issues and technological advances with impact on the industry; maintains awareness of scope and progress of competition.
  9. Effective communication skills with all levels of employees, guests, and all other outside contacts.
  10. Ability to delegate responsibility, motivate and lead direct reports to achieve goals and objectives.
  11. Familiarity with state and federal environmental standards and OSHA regulations.
  12. Understanding of corporate and resort specific policies and procedures.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

  1. Plan, supervise, and coordinate daily lift operations by exercising full supervisory authority over 60-80 employees.  Planning and conducting staff meetings and coordinating daily lift activities.
  2. Follow up on training of staff members by assigning and checking work, resolving problems, and empowering employees to work with confidence.
  3. Responsible for the operation of guest/employee ticket and pass sale accountability to include the definition of products sold, the incorporation of theft prevention monitoring, the production of necessary and timely reports in collaboration with the IT, Ticket Sales and Business Solutions departments.
  4. Develops the training and execution of guest RFID scanning at all lift access points. Responsible for maintaining ticket scanning equipment and the security of those inventories.
  5. Clear and complete documentation kept for all department trainings, certifications, daily lift logs and other compliance documentation in an organized manner.
  6. Monitors weather conditions and general surroundings by inspecting all lifts on a regular basis.
  7. Provide for safe and efficient lift operations by ensuring compliance with ANSI codes and established company policies, procedures, and requirements.
  8. Supervise and assist with daily openings and closings by coordinating transportation for staff to work sites; and preparation of ramps, closing and similar tasks.
  9. Prepares for and supervises emergency operations by training and evaluating operators on a continual basis.
  10. Deals with specific problems such as breakdowns and equipment malfunctions of lifts by initiating emergency established operational procedures.
  11. Provides superior service to our customers (internal and external) by following resort etiquette guidelines while interacting with guests.  Respond to all guests and employees in a courteous, efficient manner.
  12. Contribute to team effort by participating in Job Sharing, assuming responsibility for the cleanliness of the resort and safety of guests and employees; participating in safety meetings; accepting diverse assignments; maintain a positive and friendly attitude and demeanor in all internal and external interactions.
  13. Meet service level objectives and department goals as set forth by immediate supervisor.

RESPONSIBILITIES TO SAFETY
1. Protect the safety of self, co-workers, and Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort guests at all times.
2. Report any potentially harmful equipment or situations to the immediate supervisor without delay.
3. Report safety-related accidents and incidents at once to immediate supervisor.
4. Follow all company and department safety policies and procedures.
5. Operate equipment in a safe manner that will not lead to injury of yourself or others.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises approximately 60 to 80 employees.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma, with technical training in mechanics or engineering or related field desirable; or three to five years of related lift operations experience.  A college degree is desirable.  Must be able to ski/ride at an intermediate level or above.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Manage budget, maintain equipment and supplies, complete reports and record keeping, reasonability to review daily reports.

 

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.  Deal with a variety of special problems that may arise, such as lift breakdowns or equipment malfunction.  Prepare for and supervise emergency operations in the event of a lift failure. 

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Resort certification on any necessary equipment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions.  The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places.  The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.  The noise level in the workplace is usually loud. Noise of lift motor rooms, snow cats working in area, snowmobile noise.
