Job Summary
The GIS Architect will be part of a high performing team contributing to the architecture, design, development, and support of GPRS’s GIS applications as well as the related data. The successful candidate should enjoy multi-faceted work, being hands on developing solutions, collaborating with team members, and carving out time for deep thinking as they craft solutions. The incumbent will help us dream big as we create new features to wow our customers. Likewise, they will ensure we have the appropriate GIS technologies to support data ingestion and integration from our various service lines into our custom applications, ultimately helping our clients visualize their built world. Finally, they will assist with ensuring we maintain our high-quality standards by working to improving our current processes and triaging issues if required.
Job Goals
- Aid in the GIS data management and if necessary, solution architecting, related to GPRS’ applications.
- Assist with feature design and creation using GIS and related data accumulated from one of GPRS core service lines, customer provided data, or a publicly available data source.
- Provide thought leadership and support regarding GIS specific technologies, tools, and best practices as it relates to the applications the team supports.
Job Responsibilities
The day-to-day responsibilities will vary with no two days likely being the same. Our environment is fun and fast paced. Challenges are ever present and constantly changing. We solve one problem only to face a new one. Here are some examples of what the day to day could look like:
- Develop an integration between our application(s) and a commercial suite like ESRI, creating data portability for our clients.
- Assist with production support challenges, improving our data transformation processes to ensure data quality and data consistency using tools like FME.
- Architect a solution for manipulating and visualizing large data sets or point cloud files, allowing our customers to interact with these artifacts in our custom platform.
- Partner with teams to design and develop a feature that allows us to present a customer’s GIS data for time-series analysis, allowing them to see how their location has changed over time.
