SUMMARY:
Responsible for assisting a certified teacher in implementing a multi-sensory individualized education plan (IEP) for each severely emotionally disturbed child in a classroom with six to twelve students with special emphasis on maintenance of discipline and working one on one with student.
JOB DUTIES:
- Assist educators in implementing the IEP and review daily lesson plans and contribute information and ideas as appropriate
- Read and understand IEP and BIP of assigned students
- Observe and control behavior according to established procedures
- Report progress regarding student behavior and performance to teacher
- Provide vocational instruction according to expertise and student program (e.g., woodshop, photography, clerical)
- Accompany assigned students to vocational instruction as assigned
- Participate in special programs (e.g., assemblies, plays, cultural events) with students as required
- Participate in the maintenance of individual student records including progress reports and daily attendance records in accordance with school policies; ensures confidentiality is maintained
- Respond appropriately to incidents and problems with students to de-escalate them as quickly as possible; uses crisis intervention skills in communicating with child; participates in physical interventions as necessary, in accordance with Company policies and procedures
- Write up and turn in all incident reports
- Follow all students that elope from classroom including all breaks, walks, bathroom, etc.
- Attend and participates in faculty meetings, in-service programs and workshops to maintain professional knowledge and skills and keep informed as to Company policies and programs that may impact on students; attends and utilizes all required trainings
- Assist in maintaining health and safety of students by being aware of environment and the potential of student actions; assists the teacher or specialist according to established guidelines and procedures
- Assist students by providing behavioral examples, displaying values and morals, providing emotional support, a friendly attitude and general guidance; assists in directing group activities of students at lunch and other times
- Performs other reasonable related duties as assigned
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
In the course of performing this on-site job, the incumbent typically spends time standing, running, walking on sloped/hilly areas of campus, climbing stairs carrying, driving, lifting (up to 40 pounds), listening, speaking, reaching, writing, and participating in restraint procedures.
