EDUCATION:Â
- Must have a high school diploma or a High School Equivalency (HSE) Certificate.
- A bachelor’s or associate degree in an engineering technical field is preferred, or eight (8) years with a combination of education and practical experience performing similar work.
EXPERIENCE AND LICENSURE:
- Four (4) years of land surveying, construction layout, geospatial, civil engineering, construction, or field related experience including two (2) years as a major contributor or a project leader on a complex survey project requiring additional and specific expertise.
- This position requires a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license, Survey Intern (SI) license, or Certified Survey Technician (CST) Level III or IV Certificate.
- The employee must be capable of driving/operating a motor vehicle for company business, maintain a valid Illinois Driver’s License, and have a registered, insured personal vehicle.
- High level of proficiency in preparing plat of surveys and legal documents under a Professional Land Surveyor is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Â
- Ability to independently identify, evaluate, select, and apply land surveying and engineering criteria and standards to lead the development of technical documents across select engineering disciplines.
- Apply discipline design criteria and independently obtain field data and record information to be used in production of surveying and engineering drawings and reports.
- Self-starting, detail-oriented individual that will work in a collaborative environment completing land surveying tasks according to scope/schedule/effort expectations with limited oversight.
- Ability to manage personal schedule to adhere to multiple project deadlines while communicating progress status.
- Demonstrate the ability to technically mentor and train junior-level employees.
- Proficiency with software products:
- Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)Â
- PDF editing software (Adobe, Bluebeam, etc.)
- Work is performed in both an office environment and outdoors and requires moderate physical demands, including constant hand, finger, and arm use, sitting, standing, or walking on uneven surfaces and/or exposure to inclement or extreme weather conditions for prolonged periods of time performing field work, completing topographic surveys, and assisting in boundary surveys and/or construction layout.
- Proficient in writing and interpreting Legal Descriptions, Title Commitments, and preparing complex survey documents.
- Ability to analyze problematic situations, seeking relevant data, diagnosing information to solve problems, generalizing alternative solutions to find the best solution.Â
- Ability to coordinate between professional, support, and quality control staff, and is responsible for ensuring all work is completed in accordance with current standards of practice for surveying, such as ALTA, Minimum Standards of Practice set forth by Illinois Administrative Code for a Topographic Survey, National Map Accuracy Standards, Standards and Specification for Geodetic Control, etc.
- Work may require occasional weekend, evening, or overnight trips to conduct fieldwork.
- Proficient with Autodesk Civil 3D and/or Bentley MicroStation OpenRoads Designer.
