Job Title: Senior Accountant

Department: Administration

Reports to: Vice President of Finance

Job Purpose:

The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing and managing the financial accounting functions of Saint Viator High School. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulatory standards, and effective financial management, all in alignment with the mission and values of Catholic education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP and school policies.
  • Oversee the general ledger, ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately and in a timely manner, including reconciliations of accounts.
  • Assist in the development and monitoring of the annual budget, providing insights and analyses to support financial planning.
  • Support the annual audit process by preparing necessary documentation and working with external auditors to ensure a smooth audit experience.
  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring timely processing of invoices and collections while maintaining accurate records.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations as well as diocesan financial policies and procedures.
  • Conduct financial analysis to support decision-making, identifying trends, variances, and opportunities for cost savings.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Finance.

Qualifications

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of accounting experience, with a strong background in nonprofit or educational finance preferred.
  • Personal support of Saint Viator High School’s mission and vision, exercises good judgment, personal integrity, and maturity.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Project a positive image of Saint Viator High School and maintain confidentiality when appropriate.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse educational environment.

Working Environment:

  • Work in a dynamic school environment, collaborating closely with administration, faculty, and external auditors.
  • Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required for special projects or reporting deadlines.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone and keyboard; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Moderate lifting is required.
