Early Childhood Movement Specialist

What You'll Do

The ECC Movement specialist is responsible for planning and implementing developmentally appropriate sports and physical activities for children ages 13 months through 5 years old.  In this role, the movement specialist will lead indoor and outdoor activities groups of 8 - 18 children at a time and engage with and respond to their needs in a positive and courteous manner.  The ideal candidate cultivates the love of play in a non-competitive atmosphere while maintaining a clean and safe environment.

  • Create and deliver structured physical activity programs tailored for young children, encompassing various age groups and abilities
  • Evaluate children's physical development, track progress, and provide feedback to children, parents, and educators
  • Work with educators to seamlessly incorporate movement and physical education into the early childhood curriculum
  • Ensure all activities are conducted safely and in compliance with relevant regulations, including proper supervision and safe environments
  • Stay current with research in physical education and movement science, and potentially conduct workshops or training for other professionals
  • Encourage children's participation and motivation in physical activities to achieve fitness and developmental goals
  • Ability to communicate effectively with teachers, co-workers, parents, and children
  • Positive, friendly, outgoing, and possess excellent customer service skills
  • Enthusiastic, adaptable, dependable, and articulate, and strong work ethic
  • Exhibit professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Able to accept guidance and supervision
  • Must be a team player who works collaboratively with classroom teachers and other specialists to support an integrated approach to learning
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and develop and follow realistic action plans
  • Familiarity with child-centered, developmentally appropriate practices and a commitment to creating an inclusive, joyful learning environment.
  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate physical activities for children 13 months through 5 years
  • Must emphasize safe play, teamwork development, and self-esteem. 
  • Oversee the upkeep of the basketball gymnasium 
  • Assist in ECC classrooms as needed

Qualifications

What You'll Bring

  • A bachelor's degree in child development, early childhood education, kinesiology, or a related field preferred
  • 3+ years of experience and/or education in movement, physical education, early childhood education, or related fields such as music, dance, theatre, or child development
  • Ability to organize and lead engaging movement sessions that support physical, social, and emotional development
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers and engage in difficult conversations
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practice

Schedule
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
