Job Title: Mental Health Technician/Care Coordinator
Location: Orange County Facilities - Irvine, San Juan Capistrano, Capistrano Beach, & Dana Point
Shift: NOC 7pm - 7:30am – Sunday-Tuesday, and every other Wednesday
Reports to: Operations Supervisor
FLSA Status: Full-Time, Hourly Non-Exempt

Job Summary:
The primary role of the Mental Health Technician(MHT)/Care Coordinator (CC) is to provide direct care and support to clients with various mental health diagnoses or co-occurring disorders. Their key responsibilities include 1) supervising clients to ensure their safety, and 2) facilitating participation in treatment services, psycho-educational activities, daily living tasks, and community support.
Care Coordinators ensure group sessions run on time, clients attend therapy and case management sessions, and clients return to complete group activities. They also handle crisis de-escalation by swiftly redirecting clients, thinking quickly on their feet, and efficiently channeling requests to the appropriate team member (e.g., therapist, case manager, nursing manager, operations manager, or clinical director).
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Client Supervision & Safety Responsibilities:
- Supervise client activities and ensure awareness of their whereabouts, by completing Client Safety Observation rounds every Q15, Q30, or Q60. In some cases an employee may need to complete one on ones with clients.
- Enforce program rules and build professional relationships with clients.
- Ensures client wake-up and bedtime, escorts residents on shopping trips, recreation, meetings, medical appointments, etc.
- Monitor clients for signs of medical distress or behavioral concerns and document accordingly on the EMR system, Kipu.
- Conduct searches of client bags during admission and confiscate any contraband, notifying the appropriate supervisor.
- Experience in client safety checks including: all bedrooms, common areas, hallways and bathrooms on a regular basis ensuring that the facility is free of contraband and objects that can harm a client or cause self harm to their person. .
- Attend all mandatory training, conferences, and seminars.
- Respond appropriately to medical and other emergencies.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Physical Responsibilities:
- Frequently lift and carry up to 10 lbs. and occasionally lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
- Walk up and down stairs multiple times per shift as needed.
- Safely operate and maintain company vehicles when assigned to drive.
