Job Description: The Full-time Computer Information Systems Instructor is responsible for the planning, preparation and execution of classroom and/or laboratory experiences which result in learning. Instructors develop, evaluate and revise the curriculum incorporating evidence-based learning activities directed at meeting established learning outcomes. Instructors monitor and evaluate student performance based on established grading guidelines. Performs other duties as assigned. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Functions:

  • Contributes to the college’s mission and goals through effective instruction and classroom management

  • Plans and prepares instructional materials and lessons for assigned courses

  • Demonstrates subject matter expertise and sound pedagogical practices

  • Develops instructional outcomes and implements appropriate evaluation and assessment methods

  • Establishes and maintains an environment of rapport, respect, and high expectations for student learning

  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date records on student attendance and academic progress

  • Engages in academic advising and counseling for current and prospective students

  • Interprets college placement scores and assists students with academic planning

  • Refers students to appropriate college resources and support services as needed

  • Participates in intra-professional networking and professional development within the college community

  • Provides input into budgeting and institutional decision-making processes

  • Stays current in field of expertise and integrates recent evidence-based practices into instruction

  • Clearly communicates learning expectations to students

  • Varies teaching techniques and integrates current technology to enhance learning

  • Designs classroom activities and assignments aligned with learning outcomes

  • Provides timely and constructive written and oral feedback to students

  • Reflects on and evaluates teaching practices to identify professional development needs

  • Adheres to college requirements for class and office hours, ensuring availability to students

  • Maintains effective classroom management at all times

  • Oversees and manages lab components for courses requiring lab time

  • Sets up lab equipment and ensures readiness for instructional use

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

  • Thorough knowledge of subject matter and effective teaching techniques

  • Ability to develop daily lesson plans and design learning activities aligned with student learning outcomes

  • Skilled in communicating learning expectations through structured activities and assignments

  • Capable of effectively instructing, engaging, and assessing students

  • Familiar with college resources and instructional technologies to support student success

  • Ability to guide students in academic planning and goal setting

  • Knowledge of placement policies and the interpretation of placement scores for student advisement

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree for the teaching of non-transferrable courses (Developmental Courses) and/or Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in subject area for transferrable courses. Candidates should also demonstrate the ability to successfully maintain a teaching load involving courses such as Java Programming, Visual Basic Programming, Database Programming and Basic Computer Forensics. Candidates must have capability and flexibility to teach in the evening and/or online classes with labs that meet in-person during the day Candidates for this position must possess a thorough knowledge of the teaching field, a commitment to high academic standards, a dedication to student success, and excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Two years’ experience teaching students in higher education. The successful candidate will possess competence and experience to develop, revise, and assess the curriculum to ensure that students are acquiring current knowledge, including familiarity with technology used in classroom settings. . A shared vision for preparing students for their professional programs and an ability and willingness to use novel teaching techniques and technology to engage today’s learner is essential.
