The Adoption Support Counselor is a clinical position which supports Hillsborough County adoptive families through utilizing in-home family therapy, group therapy, and/or crisis intervention techniques. The Counselor will also help to maintain community support groups for the adoptive families. The Counselor will serve as an intricate member of the team; bringing a therapeutic, adoption competent perspective to the team. The position provides the opportunity to be trained in Adoption Competency, Trust Based Relational Intervention, and become a Certified Trauma Professional.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Adoption Support Counselor will provide oversight and clinical support to the program. Other duties may be assigned.
*Aid in reaching out to adoptive families in service area.
*Maintain peer support group and provide guidance for adoptive families/adoptive parents.
*Provide therapeutic services to adoptive families to address issues of past trauma, separation, identify confusion and the effects of these issues on the adoption family.
*Co-train during virtual support groups.
*Provide crisis response services to clinical families on caseload.
*Provide information, referrals and linkage to community services for adoptive families, including Medicaid, Education, and Social Security.
*Assist adoptive parents regarding loss and attachment issues, permanency planning and services.
*Aid in tracking of adoptive family information.
