OVERVIEW

The Sr. Data Engineer is responsible for the strategic design of data architecture systems. Their job is to optimize databases, develop ETL solutions, and manage automatized data flow.  Sr. Data Engineer will supervise database content and vouch for data quality.  This position will function as a technical leader, making sure that the data architecture under your watch is secure and sustainable. You will work together with other teams on developing various data integration strategies.  The Sr. Data Engineer will work directly with our IT Data Analytics partners to implement the next generation of data visualization and insights.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Lead designing of all aspects of our data solution including artifact creation such as diagrams and other technical documents
  • Build consensus around solutions where possible and give direction when needed\
  • Work closely with the Enterprise Data Warehouse Manager and team leads to implement a modern data and analytics platform.
  • Partner with various business partners and technology leaders to translate program requirements into scalable technical solutions and system designs
  • Work with technology teams to prototype and prove the viability of solutions
  • Facilitate planning for production implementation of solutions
  • Research, understand, and socialize new technology trends and products
  • Provide leadership and expertise in the development of standards, architectural governance, design patterns, and practices
  • Research and evaluate capability with other systems, alternative solutions and recommend the most efficient and cost-effective solution for system design
  • Advises on mechanisms for delivering solutions that demonstrate effective business-IT alignment
  • Provide testing and production support as necessary
  • Maintain a detailed knowledge of the business’ current technology and infrastructure, marketplace changes, and client processes
  • Determine tools and strategies to address business problems through modeling and understanding key business processes and impact of technology on business processes
  • Participate in all aspects of Scrum, including but not limited to daily stand-ups, estimation meetings, demos, and retrospectives
  • Provide guidance and training to other team members in the form of feedback, lunch and learns, and day to day mentoring
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, or related field
  • 8+ years of experience architecting, designing, developing, and maintaining large scale cloud data solutions
  • 5+ years of SQL experience developing stored procedures, functions and other database objects
  • 5+ years of ETL/ELT development experience, including the ingestion of real-time data
  • 5+ years working with Azure cloud solutions.
  • 3+ years working with Python in a data engineering role.
  • Experience with Lakehouse Architecture.  Databricks experience preferred.
  • Expertise working with structured, semi-structured and unstructured data
  • Expertise in Data Architecture, Data Profiling, Data Modeling, and Data Quality concepts
  • Experience driving technical ideas and communicating clearly with technical as well as non-technical audiences
  • Experience implementing enterprise data management processes, procedures, and decision support
  • Proven experience designing database objects for OLAP and OLTP

  • Ability to coach and mentor other engineers on the team.
