Full Time - 32 hrs or more per week
Days - 8 hr shifts

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To ensure delivery of efficient, caring service pertinent to individual needs of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients; commitment to providing highest quality of care.
  • Coordinates and supervises directly and indirectly all functions relative to their Units operation and maintenance.
  • Daily supervises all nursing and ancillary support personnel involved in their Unit. Assists to establish policy and standards for nursing care and practice.
  • Consults with Inpatient Team Leader, Director of Nursing or other Team Leaders regarding patient medical problems.
  • Sits in on candidate interviews for their Units positions and recommends for hire. Verifies references and ensures that all personnel hired are qualified and well trained in their area of expertise.
  • Collaborates with CQI Committee to develop and monitor orientation policies and procedures to provide competent staff.
  • Participates in orientation of new employees, in-service education, and staff development to maximize productivity and minimize turnover.
  • Coordinates, assigns, and/or provides relief coverage according to needs of the Unit.
  • Assures that medical equipment and supplies are in good working condition.
  • Assumes responsibility for keeping current with department organization trends and customer needs through active participation in activities designed to enhance skills, professional and personal growth.
  • Assures that all physicians are treated appropriately. Maintains constant communication with the surgeons and determines if their needs are being met.
  • Assist staff and providers with issues with EMR.
  • Assists in meetings with manufacturer representatives regarding updates on equipment and new products.
  • Assists with staffing needs days, nights, weekends, Holidays; call-ins.
  • Assists with discharge planning needs, facilitates in setting up any discharge needs as they arise.
  • Treats all patients equally in accordance with Patients' Rights. Acts on behalf of the patient advocate. Reviews and carries out physician orders in an appropriate professional manner. Willingness to assist with other duties when asked.
  • Assists in keeping/being a positive attitude within unit and between departments.
  • Resource person to other staff- Transfers, emergency situations, treatment rooms, and blood transfusions/lab draws, etc.
  • Makes room assignments for overnight and outpatients throughout each day; utilizing current patient census before PACU reports to unit to get assignments.
  • Evaluate need to take smaller load to assist with unit, orientation, possibly assign nurse to help with preops on shifts with multiple preops.
  • Work in collaboration with the manager for unit meeting agenda.
  • Troubleshoots issues that occur on shift.
  • Teach resources to staff; Share drive, Resource book, Blood/Lab book, Computer Reference book- help evaluate improvements and keep current.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Diploma from accredited nursing program
  • Licensed as Registered Nurse in the State of Kansas
  • Minimum of 3-year experience as a hospital RN
  • BLS and ACLS Certification required
  • Demonstrates ability to stand and/or walk at least five hours per day.
  • Demonstrates ability to lift and/or carry over 20 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Demonstrates ability to push/pull over 25 pounds on a regular basis.
