Position Objective:
The Recreation Assistant is responsible for instructing, supervising, and ensuring the safety and well-being of all guests in all recreation activities and projects in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values.
General Qualifications:
The Recreation Assistant is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship, relationships and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) mission, vision and beliefs. They are responsible for defining, cultivating and leading MHA’s Christian community, conference programs, and retreats.
Key Job Accountabilities:
- Provide supervision of recreation activities including, but not limited to, archery, climbing walls, and operating the basketball gym and game room.
- Inventory, clean, maintain, and care for all recreation equipment.
- Act as a first responder in events of injury as well as document incidents and injuries.
- Participate in maintenance projects including trail work, trimming, cleaning up courses, etc.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Education/Certifications/Licenses:
- Must have current CPR/First Aid/AED certification prior start date.
Work Experience:
- Experience instructing and supervising guests of all ages in recreation activities preferred.
- Prior archery experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Punctual and responsible.
- Exhibits great interpersonal skills with people of all ages.
- Mature understanding and respect for authority and peers, as well as camp guidelines and principles.
- A heart to serve where needed and maintain an attitude of flexibility.
- Ability to lead and teach with clear instruction.
- Familiarity with basic gardening and construction tools for outdoor work.
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time.
- Ability to operate calmly and rationally in challenging and stressful situations.
- Must be flexible with an ability to adjust and problem solve in challenging situations.
Physical Demands:
- The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
- Requires sitting, standing, squatting, stooping, and twisting.
- Ability to lift/carry 50 lbs. of gear and equipment.
- The employee is frequently required to use steep trails and stairs.

- Satisfactory completion of background investigation as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
