Position Objective:

 

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Finance and Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day finance and accounting operations, including entering journals, managing accounts receivable, accounts payable and payroll, using financial technology systems, and other select finance-related administration. The Manager serves as the primary contact for internal staff on accounting related processes and budgets. The Manager also implements and trains staff to use software that streamlines processes and improves distribution and accessibility of financial information.

 

General Qualifications:

 

The Accounting Manager is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship, relationships and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming MHA’s Christian mission, vision, beliefs and standards of conduct. They are responsible for defining, cultivating and leading MHA’s Christian community, conference programs and retreats. All staff are expected to join gatherings, which includes prayer, worship, and Bible-centered teaching. 

 

Key Job Accountabilities:

 

  • Manage all full-time and part-time Accounting Department staff.
  • Monitor and maintain adequate cash balances in various bank accounts. Prepare and review reconciliation of bank statements and monitor restricted funds.
  • Analyze monthly results and help with review of financial statements for staff and board.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget alongside the Director of Finance.
  • Prepare and review final account reconciliations and audit schedules for annual audit alongside the Director of Finance.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries, perform periodic account analyses and reconciliations, and review journal entries prepared by Kidder Creek and Director of Finance.
  • Assist accounting staff with all Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable activities.
  • Review and approve processed payroll calculations. Periodically process payroll cycle to act as backup in the event the Payroll Accountant is unavailable.
  • Perform and approve bank transactions, including bank transfers, check signing, and wire transfer initiation.
  • Liaise with other departments for managing the accounting function of various databases, to include: Adventures, Advancement, Facilities/Maintenance, Guest Services, Human Resources, Kidder Creek, Marketing, Outdoor Science, Program, Reservation and Events Services, and Retail.
  • Aide in preparation of various governmental and municipal financial reports and analysis.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

 

  • College degree in accounting, business or equivalent.
  • Firm knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

 

Work Experience:

 

  • Minimum of five years’ accounting experience
  • Minimum of two years’ supervisor experience
  • Experience with integrated accounting software systems.
  • Experience in a non-profit organization is preferred

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives with minimal supervision.
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Skill to use a personal computer and various software packages
  • Ability to work with current Excel spreadsheets and/or create new spreadsheets based on needs.
  • Knowledge of fund accounting software systems, including database structure, chart of accounts, journal entries, importing and exporting data and more.

 

Physical Demands:

 

  • The physical environment requires the employee to work inside, sitting at a desk for long periods. In addition, there may be occasional standing, squatting, stooping, and twisting. Possible occasional ability to lift/carry up to 20 lb. boxes for short distances.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in regard to all areas encountered in the job.
  • Must have a clean driving record of at least three years and agree to and comply with MHA’s employee driving guidelines for MHA-owned vehicles and use of personal vehicles for business purposes.

  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation and ability to verify eligibility to work in the United States.
