Position Objective:

 

The Outdoor Science School Program Coordinator will collaborate with the Outdoor Science School Director to oversee staff and to coordinate all program operations and in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values.

 

General Qualifications:

 

The Outdoor Science School Program Coordinator is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship, relationships and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) mission, vision and beliefs.  They are responsible for defining, cultivating and leading MHA’s Christian community, conference programs, and retreats. 

 

Key Job Accountabilities:

 

  • Collect weekly program details from teachers and OSS Director; disseminate details clearly and concisely to all OSS staff in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with teachers and parents via email and phone.
  • Visit school sites to promote OSS programs through discussion and video presentations.
  • Provide oversight to implement program curriculum, schedule, and activities.
  • Collaborate with the Director to hire staff. Plan and co-lead 2 weeks of staff training.
  • Oversee Outdoor Science School Naturalists, Principals and Health Technicians. Provide feedback, support and direction.
  • Model Christian community and coordinate OSS community centered events.
  • Facilitate conflict resolution among OSS community members.
  • Attend Mount Hermon staff breakfast/prayer and events.
  • Participate in OSS spiritual formation and leadership program.
  • Other Duties as assigned by the supervisor.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

 

This position has supervisory responsibilities for these positions:

 

  • Outdoor Science School Naturalists
  • Outdoor Science School Principals
  • Outdoor Science School Health Technicians

 

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in science, education, or related field.
  • CPR and First Aid certified (Acquired before employment, preferred).

 

Work Experience:

 

  • Previous experience in leadership roles, demonstrated ability to lead adults.
  • Previous experience with working with elementary-aged children.
  • Previous experience in administrative roles, coordinating groups, demonstrating effective communication and disseminating information.
  • 2-3 years’ work experience in a residential outdoor education setting.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills are essential.

 

Physical Demands:

 

The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Requires sitting, standing and ability to hike at least 5 miles.

 

Additional Requirements:

 

  • Must agree to and comply with MHA’s employee driving guidelines for MHA-owned vehicles and personal vehicles for business purposes.
  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in MHA’s Mission, Vision, Values and Commitment statements.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation, or valid work permit, as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
