Maintenance Technician

We are a growing and thriving social enterprise dedicated to the creation of career opportunities for people who are blind or visually impaired. This position is responsible for the upkeep of our new state-of-the-art facility in West Allis, WI. This includes inspecting the building regularly, maintaining inventory of spare/replacement parts and products, and coordinating or performing all maintenance duties and repairs on equipment and machinery. This person will also keep the facility’s grounds in presentable, clean, and safe conditions at all times. This candidate will report to the Director of Manufacturing and Operations. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Performing routine maintenance around the building
2. Repairing or coordinating the repair of broken or leaking plumbing
3. Working on or coordinating work on damaged electrical wiring
4. Maintaining or coordinating with professionals to maintain the building HVAC equipment
5. Coordinating repair or routine servicing of sprinkler system as needed.
6. Fixing potential safety hazards to avoid injuries
7. Perform basic equipment diagnosis for both electrical & mechanical issues.
8. Troubleshoot and repair all standard electrical components and detect minor equipment problems and correct them before they become major issues.
9. Disassemble/reassemble equipment such as gearboxes, cylinders, pumps, valves, etc. and repair/replace worn or defective parts.
10. Install new equipment and understand technical manuals, read blueprints and how to purchase replacement parts necessary to make equipment repairs.
11. Perform preventive maintenance per planned schedules. Maintain preventive maintenance schedule. Clean and lubricate machinery. Inspect equipment operating conditions. Identify root causes of equipment problems.
12. Ensure that trash is being picked up at exterior receptacles.
13. Grass cutting and trimming. General landscape maintenance.
14. Maintaining clear entrances and emergency exits year-round.
15. Other duties as assigned.

JOB-SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:

• Skilled in plumbing, carpentry, and electrical systems
• Ability to read blueprints and technical manuals
  • Ability to work independently
• Organization
• Problem-solving
• Basic computer skills to aid in inventory and ordering

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• At least 3 years’ experience with equipment repair and maintenance
• At least 3 years’ experience troubleshooting and repairing hydraulics, electrical and mechanical systems, and pneumatics
• High school diploma or GED
• Welding and machining experience

This is a physically demanding position which requires frequent movement, bending and lifting.
