Job Summary
This position is responsible for performing general maintenance tasks associated with maintaining airfield and grounds associated with day-to-day operations of all JAA airports. The Facilities Technician I is responsible for the maintenance of runways, taxiways, and airport roads utilizing appropriate equipment. This position is also responsible for the tasks within office buildings and hangars. The work is semi-routine in that tasks are covered by somewhat diversified procedures and precedents, but some latitude is permitted to consider the most appropriate method, technique, or procedure to follow. The work involves differing situations requiring use of judgment in searching for solutions or new applications. The work is performed primarily indoors and outdoors where there are some risks and hazards, but they are known, predictable, and controllable. Operates motor vehicles. The work is performed under general supervision where the work assignments are varied and, although subject to standard practices and procedures, the worker is permitted some latitude to set priorities subject to superior's approval. Chemical/weed control experience is desired, strong knowledge of field equipment and machinery and reliability, eagerness, and a positive attitude. This position requires employee’s schedules to rotate based on shift work and weekend/holiday work requirements to maintain 24/7 operations.
Essential Functions
- Operates heavy equipment to mow grass in and around all airports
- Operates a variety of light/medium duty motorized maintenance and construction equipment, including tracked vehicles, trucks, tractors, sweepers, and mowers
- Uses mobile sweepers to sweep runways, taxiways, streets, and parking areas
- Uses small mowers, weed eaters, blowers, chainsaws, and other landscaping equipment
- Performs scheduled and unscheduled building and hangar maintenance as needed
- Performs landscape, fence repairs, construction, land clearing, concrete repairs, road building and asphalt work
- Responsible for the upkeep of JAA owned equipment
- Clears and levels various areas in and around airport using front-end loader, flatbed truck, dump trucks, bulldozer, and other equipment
- Communicates via radio system on the airfield as required, and to the air traffic control tower
- May also perform trouble shooting of facilities such as plumbing, irrigation, structure integrity, hangar door issues, and repairs as needed
- Performs construction using drywall, concrete blocks to include painting
- Performs all other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong working knowledge of tracked cutting/clearing vehicles; tractor mowing equipment; hand tools; power tools; test instruments; airfield paints and striping equipment
- Working knowledge and utilization of tools and equipment
- Able to operate communication devices (i.e., two-way radio) and to clearly communicate with the Air Traffic Controllers and other JAA employees
- Working knowledge and utilization of Microsoft Office Products and time and attendance keeping system
- Capability to inspect facilities and equipment to determine needs and improvements
- Demonstrated maintenance skills to maintain all aspects of gates and hangar doors
- Make sound decisions by analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems
- Ability to operate cellular devices and web based applications
