Job Summary

This is work performing semi-skilled, skilled, and facilitating work involving maintenance and repair of infrastructure and all mechanical systems throughout JAA buildings. Provides assistance when required at JAXEX, Herlong, and Cecil Airport. The work requires extensive knowledge of the methods, techniques, and practices used in planning, directing and coordinating electrical, HVAC, plumbing, structural and other facilities services which is gained through a combination of training and extensive experience. Plans, assigns, facilitates and evaluates the work of assigned staff. Required skills: understanding human behavior, which is critical to job success, and involves significant interaction with people at all levels within or outside the department. The work is covered by clearly defined policies and principles where the incumbent is required to exercise judgment in accomplishing objectives. The work is performed in office and field environments. Operates computers and other standard office equipment. The work is reviewed in terms of feasibility, compatibility and effectiveness in meeting strategic objectives and expected results. Makes appropriate independent decisions as requested. Hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 4p-12a. Position requires rotating on call duties. Position is shift work.

 

Essential Functions

  • Organizes, plans and executes daily departmental activities and projects.
  • Anticipates needs, forecast results, analyzes and organizes work processes and procedures and delegates assignments and or task for results.
  • Manages the execution of the preventative maintenance of HVAC, electrical and plumbing equipment and other maintenance requirements within the assigned department.
  • Prioritizes incoming work orders for the department and delegates work assignments.
  • Demonstrates mastery of upward, downward, and lateral communication
  • Ensures foreman is kept up-to-date as required
  • Ensures the monitoring of all mechanical equipment and computer systems.
  • Schedules and ensures inspections of operating facilities to include equipment, restrooms and mechanical rooms.
  • Monitors workmanship and costs of service contractors.
  • Makes recommendations regarding updating new equipment versus repair costs and other cost saving efficiencies in the facilities department.
  • Issues purchase requisitions for materials and equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Hands-on experience and working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing and preventative maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Working knowledge in the use and maintenance of tools and equipment associated with metalworking, woodworking, finishing, drywall construction, mudding, roofing and ceiling installation, spill response and cleanup.
  • Ability to plan, assign, and coordinate maintenance and construction projects.
  • Ability to estimate time, labor and material requirements for maintenance and construction projects.
  • Skill using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for work orders, such as Oracle Enterprise Asset Management System or Maximo.
  • Ability to communicate effectively-both written and verbal.
  • Ability to analyze information and make critical decisions.
  • Ability to incorporate logic and critical thinking into systematic approaches to maintenance problem solving.
  • Ability to effectively lead and supervise the work of team members.
  • Ability to effectively perform as a change agent fortifying airport growth strategies and leadership vision.

Required Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or its equivalent; and
  • Six (6) years progressive experience as a supervisor in an industrial maintenance role, directly related to general building, plumbing, and/or mechanical or electrical functions.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge.
  • Florida Class E Drivers License may be required and must be maintained.
  • Journeyman License in HVAC, electrical, or plumbing or additional applicable/relevant certification(s).
  • Applicable/relevant experience may be substituted for respective certification(s).

 

Physical Demands

The physical demands consist of moving from one work location to another, sitting or standing at a work station for extended periods of time and may involve lifting objects weighing up to 75 pounds. Position requires operating a motor vehicle on public roads, airfield ramps areas, garages and other airside/landside portions of the airport. Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
