Systems Engineer

Job Summary
This is professional work which involves designing, maintaining, and troubleshooting server infrastructure systems. The work requires advanced knowledge of information systems, installation, analysis and design management principles, practices and techniques which is usually gained through a combination of education, training, and considerable experience. The work is designated as senior level work based on the employee’s responsibility for the troubleshooting and management of integrated, critical business unit processes and/or information systems. Contacts require skills in understanding and influencing people and are important in liaising with vendor support teams, the Help Desk, and the Network Administrators to troubleshoot information technology issues. The work is performed in an office environment. Operates computers and related equipment. After hours and on-call work is required occasionally. This work is performed under limited supervision where work is subject to operating plans, objectives, and functional policies. The work is reviewed in terms of feasibility, compatibility with other work projects and effectiveness in meeting requirements or expected results.

Essential Functions

• Troubleshoots technology problems and coordinates resolution with appropriate groups, including vendors.
• Investigates new software solutions to assess both technical and business suitability.
• Identifies opportunities to improve the efficiency of business processes.
• Investigates and resolves application functionality issues.
• Ensures compliance with change management policy in all production system changes.
• Troubleshoots technical issues and identifies modifications needed in existing systems.
• Provides support for Windows server operating systems and hardware.
• Provides support for other server infrastructure systems including SAN storage systems, server blades, and data backup systems.
• Provides support for server-side software systems including but not limited to; Microsoft Azure, Office 365, Citrix, etc.
• Maintain, troubleshoot and support operating systems and patch levels for Windows and Linux based systems.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Working knowledge of ITIL v.3, MS Exchange, and scripting.
• Advanced knowledge of current technical hardware, software, protocols, and standards, including Cisco UCS servers, current & previous versions of (VMWare vSphere & ESX, Active Directory, Windows OS, Linux OS, and Citrix XenApp/XenDesktop).
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server Operating Systems.
• Hands-on troubleshooting experience.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to be on call and respond within 20 minutes at least two (2) weeks per month.

Required Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a closely related field and
• Seven (7) years of related work experience or
• An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

Preferred Education & Experience

•  Experience in an ITIL v. 3 environment

Licenses & Certifications

• Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Certification OR Red Hat Certification Systems Administrator (RHCSA) or equivalent required
• VMWare VCTA-DCV Certification OR Citrix Certified Associate – Virtualization (CCA-V) or equivalent required
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge
• Florida Class E Driver’s License may be required and must be maintained

Physical Demands

The physical demands consist of moving from one work location to another, sitting or standing at a workstation for extended periods of time and may involve lifting objects weighing up to 15 pounds. Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
