Description

Jacksonville Aviation Authority (JAA) is seeking a Senior Accountant in Accounts Payable. JAA welcomes applications for the position of Senior Accountant through midnight Sunday, November 23, 2025.

Job Summary

This is advanced-level professional accounting work in maintaining accounting and financial records, with a specific focus on Accounts Payable. Work requires an understanding and application of accounting and financial management, principles and practices gained through a combination of education, training, and considerable on-the-job experience. Contact with others requires courtesy, tact, and effectiveness in dealing with others, and includes providing information, asking questions, and obtaining clarification when necessary. The work is governed by clearly defined policies and accounting principles, and the employee is required to exercise judgement in searching for solutions or new applications within one’s known experiences and determining the best method to accomplish an objective. Work is performed in an office environment. Operates computer using word processing, spreadsheet, database, and various accounting software. The work is performed under administrative direction and is subject to operating plans, objectives and functional policies and precedents, but the employee is given the freedom to determine how and when the expected results are achieved. The work is reviewed in terms of feasibility, compatibility with other projects and effectiveness in meeting requirements or expected results.

Qualifications

Essential Functions

  • Maintains and audits financial records, accounts, ledgers, and journals.
  • Maintains and monitors Accounts Payable module in Oracle.
  • Monitors AP Aging report and ensures timely payment to vendors.
  • Communicates with vendors to ensure proper invoicing and record keeping.
  • Develop new and modify existing accounting procedures.
  • Analyzes complex financial reports and records.
  • Prepares journal entries and posts transactions to proper accounts.
  • Prepares summaries, trial balances and related reconciliations.
  • Conducts advanced functions related to month end closing of financial modules.
  • Performs variance analyses and prepares account reconciliations.
  • Assists with financial audits.
  • Prepares and monitors operating budgets.
  • Coordinates more complex accounting projects and initiatives with other members of the accounting and finance team or other departments.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of accounting and auditing principles, practices, procedures, methods, and theory.
  • Knowledge of laws, rules and policies governing payroll, leave and expense reimbursement.
  • Knowledge of automated accounting systems.
  • Skill in maintaining accounting and fiscal records.
  • Skill in operating standard office equipment and personal computer using word processing, spreadsheet, database, and various accounting software.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly detail-oriented and organized.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to apply accounting and auditing knowledge to work assignments.
  • Ability to evaluate accounting and auditing procedures.
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive reports.
  • Ability to develop computer-based spreadsheets, graphs, summaries, and reports using Microsoft Office (Excel and Word)
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of JAA documents and records.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively with different levels of employees.

Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, and
  • Four (4) years of accounting experience in a fast-paced environment, and
  • Experience in Accounts Payable, including invoice processing, and
  • Proficiency in Oracle applications, OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred Education & Experience

  • Prior experience in the public sector

Licenses & Certifications

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge

Physical Demands

The physical demands consist of moving from one work location to another, sitting or standing at a workstation for extended periods of time and may involve lifting objects weighing up to 15 pounds. Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
