Hospice Volunteer Coordinator

About the Role:

The Volunteer Coordinator has overall responsibility for the Hospice’s Volunteer Program. Volunteers must be used in day-to-day administrative and/or direct patient care roles that meets the needs of the patient and family/caregivers. The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, training, retaining, and supervising volunteers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintains documentation that demonstrates viable and ongoing efforts to recruit and retain volunteers.
  • Provides training and orientation that is consistent with hospice industry standards and compliance with all local, state and federal laws. Maintains a written description of in-service training provided during the previous 12 months.
  • Assesses and maintains documentation of volunteers’ skills and competencies.
  • Carries out other duties as assigned by the IDG/T.
  • Ensures volunteers are aware of and in agreement with their duties and responsibilities, who to report to if they need assistance and instructions regarding performance of their duties and responsibilities.
  • Participates in the Hospice’s educational in-service programs as required.
  • Promotes hospice goals, services and philosophy to ensure quality of care.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Education: 

  • High School Graduate or Graduate of an accredited College/University is preferred. 

Experience:

  •  Experience in recruitment and management of hospice volunteers (Highly Preferred) 

Skills:

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Interdisciplinary Group/Team (IDG/T) and the community.

Environmental and Working Conditions:

  • Primarily office environment; occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions; noise level usually moderate. Occasional travel required.
