About the Role

As our Senior Estimator, you will be the cornerstone of our preconstruction efforts—leading the estimating process from concept through final bid. You’ll bring deep expertise, strategic insight, and leadership to complex, high-value projects, ensuring budgets are realistic, risks are identified early, and every number is backed by solid analysis.

In this role, you will not only prepare and review estimates but also mentor junior estimators, contribute to strategic pricing decisions, and serve as a trusted advisor to Project Managers, Finance, Architects, Engineers, and Clients. Your work will directly influence project success, profitability, and client satisfaction. This role is based out of our New Braunfels, Texas office and requires in office attendance during regular business hours.

 

Job Duties

Expert Cost Estimating

  • Develop and oversee detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and overhead on large-scale or complex projects.
  • Review and interpret drawings, specifications, and technical documentation with precision.
  • Conduct cost trend analysis and identify opportunities for value engineering.
  • Lead the preparation of bids, tenders, and forecasts, ensuring competitiveness and profitability.

Strategic Risk & Opportunity Assessment

  • Identify cost, schedule, and constructability risks early—and create actionable mitigation strategies.
  • Advise project teams and leadership on cost impacts of design or scope changes.

Vendor & Subcontractor Engagement

  • Negotiate pricing and terms with key suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Ensure consistent communication so that changes are reflected accurately in cost projections.
  • Foster strong, long-term partnerships to ensure quality service and competitive pricing.

Preconstruction Planning Leadership

  • Collaborate with design teams, engineers, and clients to shape project scope and goals.
  • Provide expert input on schedules, bid packages, and construction methods.
  • Present cost reports, projections, and recommendations to senior leadership and clients.

Process Improvement

  • Lead initiatives to refine estimating tools, templates, and workflows for greater efficiency.
  • Stay current on market conditions, pricing trends, and emerging technologies in construction.

Minimum Position Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in estimating, preconstruction, or cost management—preferably in large-scale construction or manufacturing.
  • Proven track record of successfully estimating and delivering high-value, complex projects.

Skills & Tools

  • Advanced proficiency with cost estimating software and project management tools.
  • Exceptional ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong financial acumen and understanding of market dynamics affecting cost.

Leadership & Communication

  • Skilled communicator with the ability to engage effectively with executives, clients, and project teams.
  • Demonstrated leadership in guiding and mentoring junior staff.
  • Certifications such as LEED, AACE, or PMP highly preferred.
