Qualifications

 

Position Profile

The Sustaining Engineer I is an entry level position responsible for maintaining and updating production BOMs and Drawings as components and process change, improving product manufacturability and reducing product cost.  This includes product and production process improvements and updates to safety agency files. The position reports directly to the Operations Engineering Support Manager.  As a Sustaining Engineer at BEGA North America, the individual must always exhibit BEGA’s core values of Foster Trust, Build Community, Embrace Growth and Live Responsibly.  In line with our mission, everything must be done with Quality as the driving force.

 

Knowledge & Experience

  • Successful completion of a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field required.
  • Two or more years of experience in product design and development (lighting industry preferred)
  • Familiarity with injection molded plastic, die cast and sheet metal design and with manufacturing methods and processes a plus.
  • Initiative to manage and complete project work on time with minimal supervision.
  • Understanding of heat transfer methods and basic electrical engineering principles.
  • Working knowledge of 3-D modeling software (SolidWorks strongly preferred).
  • Must have strong problem-solving skills and an analytical approach to all tasks.
  • Hands-on experience with basic metal working tools a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical wiring and testing equipment a plus.
  • Knowledge of National Electric Code (NEC) and UL Standards related to luminaires a plus.
  • Technical writing  and communication proficiency.
  • Proficient with MS Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams.

 

What you’ll do

  • Create or edit 3D models and 2D drawings as needed to keep them current for manufacturing.
  • Write Engineering Change Orders and work with Document Control Specialist to execute them.
  • Provide engineering support to the manufacturing team to resolve issues on the manufacturing floor.
  • Contribute to design improvements for cost reductions, assembly efficiency or improved field performance.
  • Ensure completion of assigned projects from launch through first production run.
  • Work with safety agency consultant and test labs to update Listing files.
  • Coordinate with our German and French partners when designs and components are updated.
